"Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup."

I have a laptop and a desktop which were both participaing in a Homegroup.  It stopped working, so I tried to "leave the Homegroup" from both machines, intending to recreate it.  By the way, standard networking and file sharing is still working.  The desktop allowed me to leave the Homegroup, but I receive the "Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup" message on the laptop.  I have run the network and homegroup troubleshooters numerous times on both machines.  I have also researched and tried everything I could find on the web, with no sucess.  Please tell me how I can reset the Homegroup settings on my laptop.

Here is a solution that might work.  It worked for me. 

"Researched the problem and found the solution. A file was corrupted and deleting it got the PNRP service running. The file was recreated correctly when the PNRP service started up. Here's the file for future reference:

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking\idstore.sst"

    So I need will need to migrate it all using easy transfer  I have hundreds of gigabytes worth of career related info on this machine ... ... Look this is the second time in 15 years of using Microsoft software etc that I have had to ask for support. And reality is I am not getting it ... I get some double agent for Geek Squad answering problems. Well I would never use Geek Squad ... Last time my buddy did he ended up coming to me for help as Geek Squad screwed up ...  This problem is the only one I am having with windows 7.  I have 4 other computers here and not a problem it all worked fine just one that I had used in another Homegroup. that will not let me leave ...   If I was the only one with this problem it would be another issue but I am finding hundreds as of just lately with this same problem.   By the way that is a common fix for Geek Squad ... do a reinstall ...   I have heard that for more people that tried Geek Squad and then I have fixed the problem and removed the virus, malware, trojan etc ..  for them where geek squad had them paying and arm and a leg so geek squad could push a few buttons.  The worst part is that I am migrating some of this to a work station and Pixologic a much smaller company making far less money provided me with a new download link actually step by step helped me with what I needed etc !   But to top it off I have had the same person for all my support with Zbrush. He is my personal support technician with Zbrush and that has been through 3 upgrades and one other migration from another machine.  I am so fed up with Microsoft I am hating the fact I went with them again. I should have chose linux or Mac osx seeing I am using for graphics etc  .. that would not be a bad choice.  But I just spent money on a new workstation and one of my other machines is totally useless now unless I remove hundreds of gigs and reinstall windows according to the Greek Squad ...   Well I refuse to take his advice I have seen there work before I want a Microsoft Tech atleast.

    hey yeah i have posted on numerous sites and yet do not have a fix.  what i think is funny are the people that repost the same answers over and over.  do they not know how to read?microsoft needs to get its support back from india and put real technicians on fixing their software.

    OK I did lucky Changs method and did not help. The services are set to auto I deleted the idstore files, etc ... I have been messing with this for over 4 hours. Does anyone have a clue why I cannot leave the old homegroup. It was a different house on different machines ...  This is a windows 7 home edition running on a dell laptop.    When I restart after doing all the fixes explained here the new idstore files appear and I still cannot leave the old homegroup.

    For all the money that windows has gotten from me in the last 15 years I am ticked as I have spent hours and hours of time with the little idiosyncrasies of there programs not working right.
