Windows 7 ask's "enter network password" when accessing Window XP Machine

Hi All,

I have two PC's one with Windows XP Pro & the other with Windows 7 Pro. I have set up a network & it seems to be working but when i try to access my XP Machine from Windows 7 in ask me to Enter Network Password. I have tried to enter my login password & that did not work, i tried to turn off the password from teh xp machine and it still asks. What can i do to fix this problem. From my xp machine i can access the windows 7 pc fine so i dont understand why W7 is asking for this network password.

Did some searches on the net and below is what i did to solve the problem that was occuring

Permitting Network Access Without a Password

To allow users to log onto their computers without a password and then access the XP Professional machine without a password, you must make a security policy change:

  1. Go to Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools | Local Security Policy.
  2. Expand Local Policies | Security Options.
  3. Double-click Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only, which is enabled by default. Disable this option and click OK.

this stopped the network access dialog box appearing when tryin to access my xp machine from windows 7 ! !

    I believe you are right. I have a desktop win7 machine a media center win8 and tablet win8, after daylight saving time change all machines did not have the same time. I could not access the the desktop from the tablet, after syncing all the clocks, the problem went away.

    Wonderful....I spend few hours trying to connect to my Win 2000 server with no success. Via Remote Desktop connection it worked, but not via the Network.

    I changed the time on the 2000 server (1 hour behind Win7) and it connected right away. What is the bug or logique in this?

    Hi,

    I had this exact same problem as well:

    • I have a laptop, Windows 7 
    • I also recently constructed a desktop, Windows 8.

    I hate it when people refer to "PC1" or "PC2". It gets confusing. So let's go with this terminology: Since I wanted my desktop to access information from my laptop, we'll call the desktop the "begger" and the laptop the "server." Since the begger wants information from the 'server' but is being denied.

    Attempts from my Begger to access information from the "server" kept getting denied with "Enter Network Password." I tried every combination possible of usernames and passwords. Nothing worked. 

    In the end, I found out I simply had to take my begger computer (Windows 8, desktop), go to control panel > Network and Internet > Homegroup. 

    At this point, I realized that my begger computer was not technically part of ANY homegroup! Identify the homegroup password on your server computer (via control panel), and use this information to allow your beggar computer to join the homegroup network. 

    Now I no longer have that awful Enter Network Password problem :)
