Windows 7 ask's "enter network password" when accessing Window XP Machine

Hi All,

I have two PC's one with Windows XP Pro & the other with Windows 7 Pro. I have set up a network & it seems to be working but when i try to access my XP Machine from Windows 7 in ask me to Enter Network Password. I have tried to enter my login password & that did not work, i tried to turn off the password from teh xp machine and it still asks. What can i do to fix this problem. From my xp machine i can access the windows 7 pc fine so i dont understand why W7 is asking for this network password.

Did some searches on the net and below is what i did to solve the problem that was occuring

Permitting Network Access Without a Password

To allow users to log onto their computers without a password and then access the XP Professional machine without a password, you must make a security policy change:

  1. Go to Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools | Local Security Policy.
  2. Expand Local Policies | Security Options.
  3. Double-click Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only, which is enabled by default. Disable this option and click OK.

this stopped the network access dialog box appearing when tryin to access my xp machine from windows 7 ! !

    All these guesses make my brain hurt, I found an easier way. Here it is for windows 7.

    Control panel/Network and sharing center/Advanced sharing settings, Turn off password protected sharing.

    Thanks for your suggestion that help me to resolve the same problem in my environment.

    The only difference was that Windows 2000 PC whose share suddenly stopped working for some reason was one hour in front of the Win7 PC so as soon as I manually adjusted the clock on Win2000 to correct time and the same as on Win7 everything has became fine.

    It was surprising that that this time discrepancy appeared couple of days after the daylight saving and even though Wn2000 PC had this option correctly set up.
