Windows 7 ask's "enter network password" when accessing Window XP Machine

Hi All,

I have two PC's one with Windows XP Pro & the other with Windows 7 Pro. I have set up a network & it seems to be working but when i try to access my XP Machine from Windows 7 in ask me to Enter Network Password. I have tried to enter my login password & that did not work, i tried to turn off the password from teh xp machine and it still asks. What can i do to fix this problem. From my xp machine i can access the windows 7 pc fine so i dont understand why W7 is asking for this network password.

Did some searches on the net and below is what i did to solve the problem that was occuring

Permitting Network Access Without a Password

To allow users to log onto their computers without a password and then access the XP Professional machine without a password, you must make a security policy change:

  1. Go to Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools | Local Security Policy.
  2. Expand Local Policies | Security Options.
  3. Double-click Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only, which is enabled by default. Disable this option and click OK.

this stopped the network access dialog box appearing when tryin to access my xp machine from windows 7 ! !

    I tried all the solutions above.  I have a Win 7 desktop and an XP SP3 Home desktop.  From the XP machine I can see all the shared files on the Win 7 machine, but from the Win 7 machine I get the passwork prompt.  Both are on the same workgroup, i have re-run the wizard on the XP machine,  I have shared/un-shared/shared a folder on the XP machine, I have changed time, there are no Windows Credentials in the Vault.  Since the XP version is not Pro I don't see the option to "Permitting Network Access Without a Password" described above. I have tried the disabling of antivirun in msconfig, and all the other suggestions.  I still get the password prompt on the Win 7 machine while trying to access the XP machine.  Any other suggestions??

    I've experienced the same problem for several days lately.  I run 4 PCs in a network. One machine runs W7, the other 3 run Windows 2000.  One of the Windows 2000 PCs stopped allowing a connection with the message 'Enter Network Password'.  The other 2 Windows 2000 PCs did not have the problem.  After following the discussion in this forum I been trying everything suggest (that applied to Windows 2000) with no success.  Finally I notices the 2 PCs running Windows 2000 that had the 'wrong' time on them were working (the time was 1 hour behind the Windows 7 PC).  The PC running Windows 2000 that DID NOT WORK had the time that matched the time on the Windows 7 PC.  I reset the PC (Windows 2000) to 1 hour behind the Windows 7 PC and now it connectes.  I tried several different times any only when set about 1 hour behind the Windows 7 PC does it work. 

    Now Windows 7 can talk with all the Windows 2000 PCs.  I'm guessing it may have something to do with the either the 'Time Zone' setting or the 'Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes'  I haven't tested those two completely.

    This fixes works with Windows 2000.  I'm not using W-XP so I can't comment on if it work with XP.  But it was a quick fix without have to adjust the 'security areas' within the OS.  I hope this is of help to someone. 

     

    I have the same setup and am experiending the same issue. Will be trying this today!
