Hi All,

I have two PC's one with Windows XP Pro & the other with Windows 7 Pro. I have set up a network & it seems to be working but when i try to access my XP Machine from Windows 7 in ask me to Enter Network Password. I have tried to enter my login password & that did not work, i tried to turn off the password from teh xp machine and it still asks. What can i do to fix this problem. From my xp machine i can access the windows 7 pc fine so i dont understand why W7 is asking for this network password.

Did some searches on the net and below is what i did to solve the problem that was occuring

Permitting Network Access Without a Password

To allow users to log onto their computers without a password and then access the XP Professional machine without a password, you must make a security policy change:

  1. Go to Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools | Local Security Policy.
  2. Expand Local Policies | Security Options.
  3. Double-click Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only, which is enabled by default. Disable this option and click OK.

this stopped the network access dialog box appearing when tryin to access my xp machine from windows 7 ! !

Time was the problem on my system.  Although the error said my user name or password were not correct, it was because I had changed the date on my Windows 7 machine and it no longer matched the XP machine.  Thank you for posting this.  It fixed my problem.  For me, turning off all password protection as someone else suggested was not an option.

I had the same issue on my Win 7 Pro 64/XP Pro 32 network. I tried most of the solutions here, though I already knew that some of them just woldn't work..

I finally gave in and just created an account on the XP machine, with the same name as my main Admin account on the Win 7 machine. I gave it admin rights (on the XPmachine). Now the Win 7 machine connects with no issues at all.

I kind of assumed that would do the trick, since it always used to work with my old Win 98/XP networks. Trouble is, now I have to do an extra click (on the right user name) to log on to the XP machine, unless I use a TweakUI trick, or a registry hack to default to my old user name. But I'm too lazy, and afraid I will forget how if I ever want to change it back.
