Do you or can you recommend a Registry Cleaner that works well with Windows 7?  In my searches I found RegAce to be the best recommend but on commencing to run the application Windows 7 gave a warning that it had not been tested on this OS.

What solution should I follow?

Thanks, DAVID.

Hello DaveJB,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Answers Forum.

Have you tried to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Click here to download the tool.

You can use the utility to remove installation information for programs that were installed by using Windows Installer. Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

Please reply back and let us know if this utlitiy helped to resolve your issue.

Sincerely,

Marilyn

David, I recently ran across a similar problem on a friend's computer.  I even tried logging in as administrator in safe mode... nada.  Then someone suggested this

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

The free version worked awesome.  I used it and then uninstalled it.

We write software for Banks and Credit Unions, which relate to electronic document handling (not relevant to registry cleaning but sets the stage for my info). In delivery of our software we work closely with Financial Institutions IT Departments in production environments.

With some regularity, over the past 6 years, we have have used CCleaner to overcome OS issues caused by the Registry not being handled correctly by installers/uninstallers.

Just as an interesting note: CCleaner used to be called "Cr@p Cleaner" but it was changed some years ago.

Our use of CCleaner has been to show IT Departments that the issues with running our software were related to the condition of their systems and not our software. In one very notable case we ran CCleaner with all it's options enabled, on a teller line PC that was failing to start our software. CCleaner removed almost 700 registry entries and nearly 2GB of junk files. More than 400 of the registry entries were related to Novel and when the Credit Union made the move from a Novel to a straight Windows network.

Once that PC was rebooted and our software was installed, our software ran exactly as designed. The IT person we were working with was so impressed that he ran it on his work PC and reported to us that it removed 1600 registry entries and substantially improved how it was working.

I'm referring to CCleaner, here, but that is only because we use it and I'm familiar with it. There are certainly other good products out there both in the freeware and paid for varieties. Some of the others may provide more or better functionality but I can't speak to that.

For those posting here that are sticking to the "never touch your registry" or "no one should every use a registry cleaning tool", well each to their own. Our company has found that these tools are not fakes and have proven to be very useful to us and to our clients who we need our own products to work well for.
