Cannot delete file. Says "Item Not Found Could not find this item Verify this item's location and try again."
I had this file sent to me from my friend - it's a word document I had on their computer. So I tried using Disk Cleanup to delete temporary files, temp internet files, and downloaded program files. Doesn't work.
When I check properties, there is no security tab, so I can't transfer ownership that way.
I also don't want to experiment using the Command Prompt way of transferring ownership since the file's name is several sentences long. I can't rename it either, of course.

What i did was create a notepad file that was blank and saved it at the same location as the file that wont go away. once saved. I right click the new file and rename it to the exact name as the problem file. Be sure to change the file extension (ex: .doc)
ex problem file: word.doc
new file: word.doc
as long as they match eachother exactly you should see the problem file disappear and once thats gone you can delete the new file created.
Mine was a .part file that opened in notepad and had no content in it. A question popped up that asked if I wanted to create a new file. I clicked that option, afterwards I was able to right click on that file and delete it and emptied the Recycle Bin. This was originally a .part file for a two part download that separated an .mp4 file and .mp3 file in a download manager program that is an add-on to Firefox, a Mozilla browser. After the program downloads the two parts, they merge together forming one .mp4 audio-video file. But if the download is interrupted it results in a corrupted file.
Fortunately it was resolved only after the choice was made to create a new file after trying to rename the file initially.\
This worked for me. I got rid of that stupid file and hope never to see the likes of it ever again.
It was because of an add-on that is a Flashplayer Downloader program of some freeware type.

I had a similar issue but with a file folder so I tried the same technique but for a file folder instead - worked like a charm!

The one that others posted about creating a notepad with the identical name only worked for 2 seconds, after the duplicate file was created, then deleted - it re appeared (still not allowing for deletion).
Anyhow, the 7-zip file solution worked perfectly!
