LG DVD-RAM Drive not reading discs in Windows 7

Title pretty much sums it up....

I have 7 installed and it's running great! But if I put anything into the drive to load onto the system it doesn't spin it up. I can see the drive in My Computer, but it still thinks that CD1 of World of Warcraft is inside of it, but it didn't spin up that disc either.

I had a bunch of things turned off during the install (HyperTransport, IDE, FDD), should I turn everything off again and try to load it up, just to turn it all back on later? Or is there a known fix? Exact model is the GH22NS30.

Hi Rustedbucket,

Thanks for posting to the Getting Ready for Windows 7 communtiy forum.

Try deleting the filters in the registry, see if this helps to resolve this.

Remember to backup the registry to external media prior to editting the registry.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2**. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM**. 3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete. 4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry. 5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete. 6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry. 7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

hi ruste dbucket,my LG super multi dvd ram drive is working perfectly with windows 7 rc.i did not turn anything off during the install. intell e6850 core 2 duo,evga 780i ftw,corsair dominator 8500 4gigs,wd raptor 150gb,lg super multi dvd-ram drive,evga 260ssc

Hi Rustedbucket,

Thanks for posting your responses to the community forum.

The directions given in the thread to delete the upper and lower filters should be carried out as suggested. If followed according to the article, all should be fine. The article is a Vista article but it is applicable to Windows 7 as well - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461. Please review the article to insure all steps are taken as suggested.

See if it brings functionality to the CD/DVD back.

If not, try booting to the Windows PE CD/DVD and see if it is functioning in that environment.

Let us know if you are able to boot to the WindowsPE disk and see the drive.

I tried doing what you suggest again.... And, again, there is no UpperFilters or LowerFilters value present in registry subkey {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. I ran Devcon, this is what it reported:

IDE\CDROMHL-DT-ST_DVD-RAM_GH22NS30_________________1.02____\5&F23758A&0&1.0.0 Name: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NS30 ATA Device Setup Class: {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} CDROM Controlling Service: cdrom1 matching device(s) found.

As you can now verify, the filter is not present.

The second link that you left does not take me to a Preinstallation Environment, or it does and I do not know what I am looking for. When I select the link, I am brought to "Microsoft Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment 2007." I can not find anything relating to a Preinstallation Environment within that thread.

I am still looking for a solution or a "known issue" response in regards to LG drives not reading discs under Windows 7. I have posted on this forum multiple times and have been given suggestions by moderators (all of which I have attempted).

Please, I still am using a machine that does not have a CD/DVD drive that reads. Here is a list of EVERYTHING that I have done to rectify the situation (mods, please note that I HAVE attempted the Upper/Lowerfilters fix and that the Upper/Lowerfilter entries DID NOT exist; note that Devcon confirms that the filters do not exist).

The drive model is:

LG GH22NS30 Super Multi - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM drive - Serial ATA - 48x (CD) / 16x (DVD) 48x (CD) / 20x (DVD±R) / 12x (DVD-R DL) / 16x (DVD+R DL) 32x (CD) / 6x (DVD-RW) / 8x (DVD+RW) / 12x (DVD-RAM) - Internal - Black

-- Drive is recognized by Windows 7 (can be seen in Explorer and Device Manager)

-- BIOS will recognize discs and prompt for booting (should the disc be a boot disc)

-- I have tried removing the Upper and LowerFilters in the registry; NEITHER value existed when I searched for them

-- I have uninstalled the drive, both physically and via device manager

-- I have run Devcon to determine the parameters of the drive; this is the resulting information:
