LG DVD-RAM Drive not reading discs in Windows 7

Title pretty much sums it up....

I have 7 installed and it's running great!  But if I put anything into the drive to load onto the system it doesn't spin it up.  I can see the drive in My Computer, but it still thinks that CD1 of World of Warcraft is inside of it, but it didn't spin up that disc either.

I had a bunch of things turned off during the install (HyperTransport, IDE, FDD), should I turn everything off again and try to load it up, just to turn it all back on later?  Or is there a known fix?  Exact model is the GH22NS30.

Hi Rustedbucket,

Thanks for posting to the Getting Ready for Windows 7 communtiy forum.

Try deleting the filters in the registry, see if this helps to resolve this.

Remember to backup the registry to external media prior to editting the registry.

  1. Click Start

, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

Collapse this imageExpand this image

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2**. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM**. 3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete. 4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry. 5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete. 6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry. 7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Please let us know if this assists you or if further assistance is needed involving this issue.

Regards,

Debbie

I'm having the same problems as everyone else in this thread, searching high and low for answers but all to no avail. I take it that a proper solution has yet to be found? It's been 11 months since the threads creation date, just one month short of a year and I'm seriously doubting that this will ever get fixed.

9,036 viewcounts later and we're still essentially stuck at square one...

Same problem with me. Coincidentally, I also had an incredibly difficult time installing 7 due to the fact that it didn't want to recognize my GH22LS30 LG drive.

After trying all the listed solutions and reading about how frustrated you all after such a long time, I have resigned myself to buying a new drive.

I"ll just say that it's very sad to me that all of us here have spent our money supporting this company just for a defective product. A product that in turn causes us to have to spend more money just to get it working correctly. Pathetic!

What do you mean NO UAC as a solution?  I used to be able to play my dvd video games on my sony double layer dvd rw drive and also my lg gdr8162b and neither of them now work after updating to sp3 on windows xp.

I have done everything suggested and nothing works.
