LG DVD-RAM Drive not reading discs in Windows 7

Title pretty much sums it up....

I have 7 installed and it's running great!  But if I put anything into the drive to load onto the system it doesn't spin it up.  I can see the drive in My Computer, but it still thinks that CD1 of World of Warcraft is inside of it, but it didn't spin up that disc either.

I had a bunch of things turned off during the install (HyperTransport, IDE, FDD), should I turn everything off again and try to load it up, just to turn it all back on later?  Or is there a known fix?  Exact model is the GH22NS30.

Hi Rustedbucket,

Thanks for posting to the Getting Ready for Windows 7 communtiy forum.

Try deleting the filters in the registry, see if this helps to resolve this.

Remember to backup the registry to external media prior to editting the registry.

, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2**. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM**. 3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete. 4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry. 5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete. 6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry. 7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

    God they better fix this in SP1 so I get rid of my XP partition.

    just to let everyone know.... I have Dual-Boot with Vista and Win 7 RC.... My lite-on drive works fine in vista, but in win7 RC it acts the same as you all (won't recognize discs, keeps asking to place in media, etc)... I've tried every solution listed and still nothing... the fact that it works perfectly when i boot up into vista proves there is something wrong with win7 RC...

    HAHA!  I just figured it out....  odd as this may seem... As I mentioned it works properly in vista and in the BIOS... but not in windows 7... I tried EVERYTHING but the *only* thing I didn't try was updating my motherboard's BIOS... I didn't think I needed to since it obviously worked under the current BIOS and windows Vista but I gave it a shot anyway and then *BAM* my drive now works in Windows 7.... odd but give it a shot I'm sure it will work for you.
