LG DVD-RAM Drive not reading discs in Windows 7

Title pretty much sums it up....

I have 7 installed and it's running great!  But if I put anything into the drive to load onto the system it doesn't spin it up.  I can see the drive in My Computer, but it still thinks that CD1 of World of Warcraft is inside of it, but it didn't spin up that disc either.

I had a bunch of things turned off during the install (HyperTransport, IDE, FDD), should I turn everything off again and try to load it up, just to turn it all back on later?  Or is there a known fix?  Exact model is the GH22NS30.

Hi Rustedbucket,

Thanks for posting to the Getting Ready for Windows 7 communtiy forum.

Try deleting the filters in the registry, see if this helps to resolve this.

Remember to backup the registry to external media prior to editting the registry.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2**. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM**. 3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete. 4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry. 5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete. 6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry. 7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

    Hey all.

    I too have an LG Multi DVD drive and I to have had the exact same problem with both 64bit and 32bit Windows 7 Pro.

    Searched high and low for a solution but to no avail. I think I might consider getting a SATA DVD Burner and see how that goes.

    But im afraid its just going to produce the same results.

    Ah no... seems I got lucky one time.

    Still doesn't work.

    Out of interest - does anyone else see a "Paging error" in the System Event Logs?

    Error 51?

    Result!

    Both my DVD drives have started working again!

    All I did was un-install Cyberlink PowerDVD and let WMP or BSPlayer handle the DVDs and the problems have dissapeared.

    Hey everyone, I have been looking in this forum for weeks now ever since I upgraded to Win7 Pro 64bit.  I have the GH22NS30 like a few of you in this thread.  I tried EVERYTHING EVERYONE mentioned in this forum and other forums.  I even tried updating the chipset drivers on my motherboard.  But interestingly enough, I messed around with the driver of my DVD drive and all of a sudden iTunes started giving me that "Optical drive is no longer visible.. etc". This led me to google on how to fix THIS problem.  One option was to remove/reinstall iTunes; this didnt work.  The next option had to do with the GEAR Software.  Instructions found on Apple's site told me to uninstall/remove/edit the drivers via regedit.  So I did all that, rebooted (I also uninstalled my dvd drive before restarting knowing that W7 would reinstall it automatically, I wanted to be cautious) and reinstalled the GEAR Software.  AND AM I HAPPY NOW!!!!! Now I am able to read/write through my drive! I REALLY hope this works for someone else as I DO NOT want to duplicate my problem and test my theory once again.  (Sorry for the informative speech as I'm only 20 years old and VERY ecstatic now that my drive works again!)  I was very frustrated because one of my friends has the same drive and same Win7, yet his worked and mine didnt.  Here are the links to the instructions on reinstalling the GEAR Software:
