LG DVD-RAM Drive not reading discs in Windows 7

Title pretty much sums it up....

I have 7 installed and it's running great!  But if I put anything into the drive to load onto the system it doesn't spin it up.  I can see the drive in My Computer, but it still thinks that CD1 of World of Warcraft is inside of it, but it didn't spin up that disc either.

I had a bunch of things turned off during the install (HyperTransport, IDE, FDD), should I turn everything off again and try to load it up, just to turn it all back on later?  Or is there a known fix?  Exact model is the GH22NS30.

Hi Rustedbucket,

Thanks for posting to the Getting Ready for Windows 7 communtiy forum.

Try deleting the filters in the registry, see if this helps to resolve this.

Remember to backup the registry to external media prior to editting the registry.

, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2**. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM**. 3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete. 4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry. 5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete. 6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry. 7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

    I don't think there ever was a solution to this issue. For some reason LG optical drives don't work well with Windows 7 RC. I truly hope they have fixed this issue for the actual Release. As I have 2 computers with LG drives in them which I'd like to install Windows 7 on.

    I also have this same issue. I have both a CD-RW drive and a DVD-ROM drive in my computer. Both drives read discs fine outside of Windows 7. In Windows 7 I cannot read any type of disc. This was a clean install of Windows 7 so no other burning software or anything is installed. The drives did not work right after Windows 7 install finished. I also have no Upper or Lower Filters in the registry.

    Why is this marked as answered, MICROSOFT! Do Debbie and David the supposed Support Engineers think they can come in here and state some ____ out of a book, THAT DOESN'T EVEN APPLY TO OPTICAL DRIVES BECAUSE THERE ARE NO UPPER AND LOWER FILTERS TO DELETE, and then call it a day? Is that what you think constitutes and answer? Absolutely not! How the $#@! do I get this reopened? I swear to god I will sling a script at this forum that posts this question a thousand times every hour if you don't re-open this. It's one thing to not have an answer..I get it, its a release candidate, we're all still figuring this thing out. But for these two lame ducks to come in here, scribble some jibberish down in an vague attempt to solve a problem and call the issue closed is insulting.

    I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing the same issue cgoidel. I'm still having success with my HP drive. The fact that yourS is Hitachi and ours was an LG may say something about the driver origination though.

    Mine is not LG. It is a Hitachi on a Dell.
