LG DVD-RAM Drive not reading discs in Windows 7

Title pretty much sums it up....

I have 7 installed and it's running great! But if I put anything into the drive to load onto the system it doesn't spin it up. I can see the drive in My Computer, but it still thinks that CD1 of World of Warcraft is inside of it, but it didn't spin up that disc either.

I had a bunch of things turned off during the install (HyperTransport, IDE, FDD), should I turn everything off again and try to load it up, just to turn it all back on later? Or is there a known fix? Exact model is the GH22NS30.

Hi Rustedbucket,

Thanks for posting to the Getting Ready for Windows 7 communtiy forum.

Try deleting the filters in the registry, see if this helps to resolve this.

Remember to backup the registry to external media prior to editting the registry.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2**. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM**. 3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete. 4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry. 5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete. 6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry. 7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Hello sumanth1991,

If lower filters is not present, go ahead and reboot to see if the issue is fixed with just upper filters removed.

If that does not resolve the issue, I would recommend creating a new thread in the Windows 7 Hardware and Drivers forum.

i followed the above procedure and deleted upper filters

but next i didnt found any lower filters to delete please help me what to do???? please

Actuall this problem occured to my device after replacing the intel mother board with warranty

I have the same question as well as the exact same DVD drive - Model GH22NS30. When I had Windows Vista it worked flawlessly and immediately after installing Windows 7, it no longer works properly.

Updating the LG driver did nothing,

deleted the Upper and Lower filters, nothing,

updated the motherboard driver also nothing.

Searching for this, this seems to be a very common problem, though I am not sure if it is just LG or other DVD drives but LG and Windows 7 dvd problems turns up a lot of threads. The problem is, none of these threads seem to have the answer that fixes most troubles. I am wondering, if I just bite the bullet and get a new dvd drive, if that will fix my problem since no one seems to have the proper solution to the LG/Windows 7 combination.

I followed these steps to try and solve my problem. Unfortunately, in the designated folder I have found only an 'UpperFilters', while the 'LowerFilters' is absent entirely.

What are the steps I should take from here?
