Windows explorer random crashes for Windows 7 64-bit

Hello,

I have been been getting random windows explorer crashes. I am on windows 7 64 bit version. Here are my most recent event error logs from the past day:

The crashes do not stall my system its just that the pop up window shows up saying I have restart windows explorer again. I'm wondering if its a program I installed or something else. I do not want to reinstall windows 7 in order to fix this problem. Any help is appreciated. Please let me know if more information is required. Thank you.

Continual Windows Explorer crashes.  Depending on my activity, how many windows/programs I was opening and closing as often as every few minutes.

For me, it was the Trend Micro Internet Security Suite.  I took that out, life is good again and my new computer is finally performing as I expected it would.

A pity, I've been with them since they were PCCillin.

    Hi Andre - can you please take a look at my dump files. File explorer crashes randomly. One way I can trigger it is if I click on Windows Update  then "Check for new updates".

    Is there anything else I should do to get better information from the debug files ?

    Start regedit and go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\Explorer.exe

    Create a new DWORD (32Bit) with the Name DumpType and give it the value2 .

    Now wait for the next Explorer crash and now a larger dump is being created. Upload this new dump please.

    I'm having explorer.exe crashes too, when I run games applications (so far, the only ones I noted to crash it), on one note tho not all games I run do crash it (oddly):

    Nadeo's TrackManiaForever does not crash it.

    Blur does not crash it.

    All my steam games crash it (Counter-Strike/Half-Life and TeamFortress2/HL2).

    Stainless's Magic The Gathering crashes it.

    The crash happens when the applications seems to go to fullscreen, from the launch of the game the explorer.exe crashes but only gets a warning till I come to the Desktop and "click" it.

    I'm unable to put that Key into my registry because my "Windows Error Reporting" folder doesn't have a "LocalDump" folder but instead:

     "Consent"

    "Hangs"

    " HeapControlledLists"

    " RuntimeExceptionHelperModules"

    "WMR"

    Just ran MalwareBytes and no threat was found:

    How can I create a Dump file so anyone can tell what is the real problem explorer.exe is facing?

    EDIT: FOUND IT!

    It seems my "brand new" laptop came with Java pre-installed. Good. Not so good when Java version was not up-to-date.

    Updating Java took care of the problem.

    May solve anyone with same problems.

    the crash is caused by your installed Codec-Pack. remove it to fix the crashes.
