How can I convert my USB memory stick from EXFAT to NTFS? It's not letting me format it to NTFS.

Hi there,

I have bought 64GB USB Memory Stick. But I am not able to format this drive into NTFS file system. I have got Windows 7 operating system. It is only allowing me to formate it into EXFAT only. Because of non NTFS file system i am not able to copy bigger than 2GB file. Even sometimes if i copy the whole folder still nothing gets copy in it. Only the folder name.

I have tried different partition softwares to formate it into NTFS but still no louck atall. Even i tried to make partition of 8GB but still no luck.

So, is there any other way that i can formate my memory stick into NTFS file system.

Please help for this problem. I am looking for the solution since last 3 months.

    One possible way boot your windows into safe mode and try to format there to any accessible format. If you set up before for better performance that should work now and you can format to ntfs.

    To boot into safe mode one way is to press the F8 when you boot your computer (after the bios post, not during bios post) a menu should pop up and choose the safe mode with networking or simply safe mode. Here you log into an administrator user account. Then everything should be ok to format it and set it up.

    Because you not set up the quick format switch. with format /? you get the full list and always use the quick switch. With the quick format switch the formatting going only on system files means the mbr and so on. Without the quick switch during the normal formatting it will rewrite all sector with 0`s. So its very slow on a 256 Gb drive and could take several hour to finish.

    I still have this issue till now. It has rendered my memory stick useless. Has anyone found the solution to this problem? Someone please help..I'm going n....

    In this forum there was many ways reported how to do it. Converting will not work, only reformatting. If the flash not responding go and ask for the warranty support. Don't be lazy and read this forum. One or another way works definitely.

    I have exactly the same issue, nothing seems to work, is there no windows 7 update because at the moment the flash is useless!!

    I am having the same issue from the 2009 post 3 years later in 2012!!!

    Is anybody actually still working at Microsoft???
