ReadyBoost and sysmain

I am trying to activate readyboost in windows 7 professional 64 bit. When I go to properties on the usb drive, it says ReadyBoost is not enabled because the service responsible for ReadyBoost (sysmain) has been turned off on this computer. An administrator can turn the sysmain back on. Please help.

Hi,

type services.msc into the startmenu search and launch the tool. Search the Superfetch entry and make a double click on it. Now change the start type to "automatic" and click on start. The service now starts and you should be able to use ReadyBoost.

Btw, you should never disbale Superfetch, it slows down your PC!

    One quick note on Readyboost / Superfetch.  If you have an Intel X25M Solid state drive, then superfetch / readyboost actually slows down your machine by a small amount.  99% of all USB drives will also not work if you have a X25-M since the drive is fast enough.

    I currently run X25M's in my desktop and laptop and having this service disabled increases performance.

    Please Note:  If you do not have a hard drive with the same or better performance than the X25M then it's definitely beneficial to have this service turned on.  I bought an Ultra Fast 4gb SD card for my wife's machine and it increased the performance on her HP by about 25% overall.

    My laptop specs:

    Asus G71 Q9000

    12GB Ram

    Intel X25-M 160GB Gen2 SSD Hard drive.

    Nvidia GTX 260 Graphics.

    Windows OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    Hello, I saw your post and find it very helpful, I've been having problems with Ready Boost too, also experiencing slowing down my windows system, I followed your helpful  steps till here, I searched the registry key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Superfetch

    I found that in the registry with this "sub - keys":

       * (Predeterminado)     Value:  (valor no establecido)

       * MemMonitorState      Value:  1620000010e

       * PfPdData                  Value:  hex:01,00,00,00,28,03,00,00,42,00,00,00,de,de,26 ..... (a lot of stuff actually)

       * ProcessorTime          Value:  8feb5

       * ServiceFlags             Value:  10100400

       * VirtualStoreSize        Value:  384

    Also found this "sub - folders or subkeys" inside "Superfetch" folder:

        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Superfetch*DiskAssessment*

        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Superfetch*ReservedPriorityDbs*

    --------> My specific problem is:  Sysmain (Superfetch) the service responsible for Ready Boost, works, but it is not loaded at Win 7 start, I have to wait till Win 7 finishes loading, start the "Services - Servicios" dialog and start it manually.

    I checked the "Superfetch" service configuration and it's configured to "Automatic", but still not loads in Win 7 start, I have to start it manually.  I also checked the folder Windows/System32/ and file sysmain.dll is there.

    I don't know what else I can do, can please you help me? Thank you.

    My system configuration:   AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 1.8GHz     1GB RAM DDR 400MHz     Motherboard MSI K8MM-V Via Chipset based      Graphics video card MSI nVidia GeForce FX5200 128MB     Hard disk drive 160GB SATA      Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bits Español       I also got a second OS on the same pc
