ReadyBoost and sysmain

I am trying to activate readyboost in windows 7 professional 64 bit. When I go to properties on the usb drive, it says ReadyBoost is not enabled because the service responsible for ReadyBoost (sysmain) has been turned off on this computer. An administrator can turn the sysmain back on. Please help.

Hi,

type services.msc into the startmenu search and launch the tool. Search the Superfetch entry and make a double click on it. Now change the start type to "automatic" and click on start. The service now starts and you should be able to use ReadyBoost.

Btw, you should never disbale Superfetch, it slows down your PC!

    I got the delete prefetch folder from someone else, I wish I could remember who so I could credit him..  Of all the posts I read, everyone said the same thing which was basically "Just turn it on"

    but thats the problem it wont turn on, its as useful as telling someone to turn on the light switch in a dark room when its the bulb thats bad...

    type the following from a command prompt

    del /q /f c:\windows\prefetch\*.*

    rd c:\windows\prefetch

    then go back to services and restart superfetch
