ReadyBoost and sysmain

I am trying to activate readyboost in windows 7 professional 64 bit. When I go to properties on the usb drive, it says ReadyBoost is not enabled because the service responsible for ReadyBoost (sysmain) has been turned off on this computer. An administrator can turn the sysmain back on. Please help.

Hi,

type services.msc into the startmenu search and launch the tool. Search the Superfetch entry and make a double click on it. Now change the start type to "automatic" and click on start. The service now starts and you should be able to use ReadyBoost.

Btw, you should never disbale Superfetch, it slows down your PC!

Hi,

you get the following error:

The system cannot find the file specified

This means a file was not found. Can you please open Explorer and look inside your System32 folder and check that the file sysmain.dll is there?

If not, open the cmd prompt (as administrator) and run sfc /scannow.

Below is the log report that is generated each time I attempt to start superfetch. This is a windows 7 upgrade from XP, I have attempted a clean reinstallation and it still gives me the same error.

Hi Joe,

which error message do you now get when you try to start Superfetch? Have you looked in the event log? Do you see more details why Superfetch can't be started.

Thanks for your response. I have now attempted to change the registry enablesuperfetch to a value of 3. Each time it appears to work and gives me no errors. However when I launch services.msc it shows superfetch as not started and I cannot use my usb dirve for readyboost. Like I mentioned earlier, I am much less concerned about the readyboost as I am about the superfetch not working.

Any other suggestions?
