ReadyBoost and sysmain

I am trying to activate readyboost in windows 7 professional 64 bit. When I go to properties on the usb drive, it says ReadyBoost is not enabled because the service responsible for ReadyBoost (sysmain) has been turned off on this computer. An administrator can turn the sysmain back on. Please help.

Hi,

type services.msc into the startmenu search and launch the tool. Search the Superfetch entry and make a double click on it. Now change the start type to "automatic" and click on start. The service now starts and you should be able to use ReadyBoost.

Btw, you should never disbale Superfetch, it slows down your PC!

    That entry does not exist.  also, i am not using an ssd hard drive.

    Hi,

    please start regedit.exe and look if the Key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Superfetch

    is there.

    Do you find the entry?

    Hi,

    please run ProcessMonitor (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx) in background and try to start Superfetch. When you get the error message stop the trace in ProcessMonitor. Now filter all SUCCESS results out and look at the errors. Do you see more details which file is not found?
