I am trying to activate readyboost in windows 7 professional 64 bit. When I go to properties on the usb drive, it says ReadyBoost is not enabled because the service responsible for ReadyBoost (sysmain) has been turned off on this computer. An administrator can turn the sysmain back on. Please help.

Hi,
type services.msc into the startmenu search and launch the tool. Search the Superfetch entry and make a double click on it. Now change the start type to "automatic" and click on start. The service now starts and you should be able to use ReadyBoost.
Btw, you should never disbale Superfetch, it slows down your PC!

When I click on the ServiceDll file it displays the following:

You can set superfetch to automatic start by first starting it manually as described above and then when it is in start mode but still says manual start, click on superfetch again and you will see a drop down menu that will allow you to set superfetch to automatic start. That way, you don't have to restart it everytime you boot up your computer, and ready boost will always be available to use with a suitable external storage device.
I am following this thread as I am experiencing exactly the same problem.
The value of "Service.dll" in my registry is the same: %systemroot%\system32\sysmain.dll

I have had the same problem with ready boost. I copied everything in the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder into a new folder on my desktop, then deleted everything in the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. rebooted and Ready boost is now working on my machine. THANK YOU Scruffy_Nick and Thanks to Everyone else for the help!!
