ReadyBoost and sysmain

I am trying to activate readyboost in windows 7 professional 64 bit. When I go to properties on the usb drive, it says ReadyBoost is not enabled because the service responsible for ReadyBoost (sysmain) has been turned off on this computer. An administrator can turn the sysmain back on. Please help.

Hi,

type services.msc into the startmenu search and launch the tool. Search the Superfetch entry and make a double click on it. Now change the start type to "automatic" and click on start. The service now starts and you should be able to use ReadyBoost.

Btw, you should never disbale Superfetch, it slows down your PC!

    Thanks for your attention Andre.  I have logged on as the administrator and gone to the services administration window to start superfetch, however it will not start.  When I click start it opens a progress bar that advances approximately 15% then it stops.  From everything I have read Superfetch is vital to my systems performance, however it appears to never have worked on  my system. 

    I have found threads that indicate adjusting the prefetch/superfetch values in the registry.  I did set them from 0 to 1, and the system worked for a bit but crashed and upon restart it forced me to return to a stable state of the operating system prior to the registry change. 

    I am very confused.   As a side note, I am running Windows 7 through parallels 5.  Could this be the problem?

    Hi,

    set the EnablePrefetcher and EnableSuperfetch entries to 3 and try again.

    Hi Joe,

    which error message do you now get when you try to start Superfetch? Have you looked in the event log? Do you see more details why Superfetch can't be started.

    Thanks for your response.  I have now attempted to change the registry enablesuperfetch to a value of 3.  Each time it appears to work and gives me no errors.  However when I launch services.msc it shows superfetch as not started and I cannot use my usb dirve for readyboost.  Like I mentioned earlier, I am much less concerned about the readyboost as I am about the superfetch not working.

    Any other suggestions?
