Windows Live photo gallery: "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed" (jpg)

Hi -

I have Win XP,  and windows Live photo gallery.  The thumbnails appear fine, but when I click or double-click a thumbnail to open it full screen, I get the error message "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed".  the files are standard jpgs.  I tried changing the jpg file association to Windows Live photo gallery; that didn't work.  (default before was Irfanview) The SubinACL fix didn't work.  Any ideas?

Hey Jim Br,

Welcome to the forum!

This can happen in the database that keeps track of the pictures and videos in your collection becomes corrupted. You can rebuild your database by:

·         Close Windows Live Photo Gallery

·         Click Start

·         Click My Computer

·         Paste this address in the Address field %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Photo Gallery

·         Right click Pictures.pd5

·         Click Rename

·         Change the file name to OLD_Pictures.pd5

·         Open Windows Live Photo Gallery

Now Windows Live Photo Gallery will rebuild its database, which should stop the error you are receiving from occurring.

    ok.why not try photo movie theater I've been using it !

    You can use Photo MovieTheater to help you solve the problem. It can help you turn photos to photo slideshow and view then with zoom out, fade in, etc effect. and you can add background music to the slideshow. After makingphoto slideshow, you can share the slideshow on YouTube, TV, PSP and so on.

    Hey! I think you can try Photo MovieTheater. It is a good slideshow creator software.

    using that, you can add background music, caption, illustration, effect,transition,etc.

    Of course, you can put theslideshow on CD, DVD. and you can enjoy it on TV.

    I can't access Photobucket to post an image. Photobucket say there isn't a problem from their end. In 'network places' I get a message saying 'msnusers.com/ no longer available'.

    If this is the problem how do I fix it?

    HI

    I have windows 7

    I had the same trouble try this fix and it didn't work. I went to control panel uninstall a progam right click on WINDOWS LIVE ESSENTIALS AND REPAIR. Restarted the computer and this fixed the problem.
