Windows 7 will not remember wireless network key

I have two wireless networks in my home, which are both secured with WPA - Personal TKIP encryption. For some reason, every time I reboot and login, I must re-enter my network key. I've been living with this for about six months but now its getting on my nerves.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64

I would be very grateful if anyone could solve this problem as it is extremely annoying and would save me a lot of time.

I have been banging my head against a wall with this issue for some time but I have finally found the solution.

If you are having trouble with Windows 7 not saving your network security key, or reverting to some old key, the solution is as follows:

run msconfig (start > run (or just type into the "Search programs and files" field above the windows orb) > msconfig)

this brings up the System Configuration dialog box

click the Startup tab

scroll to find your wifi adapter's startup program (in my case it was NETGEAR)

uncheck the box next to this startup item

restart your computer. problem solved.

    I have the same issue, every time I start my computer at work it does not automatically sign into the wi-fi. It never remembers the wi-fi password. This is really bad since I have a work station in an unsecured area and I need to sign out every time I leave my desk. Here is a image of the properties window for my wireless network connection. There is no IEEE authentication

    What do you suggest?

    That worked for me too !!! I executed msconfig and went to the "Services" tab. There I found  Realtek 11nCU service and disabled it.

    I should point out that the Realtek 11nCU referred to my laptop's onboard wifi adapter which hasn't been working for a long time now and I've been using a usb wifi adapter. Maybe this was also part of the problem. Anyway, it's working fine now and remembers all the wifi passwords I stored.

    Hi,

    I had the same problem on Windows 7 which started after I provided an extra user. I tried the MS Config. solution but that was no help.

    I saw on the Microsoft web site about checking the "IEEE" option  by doing the following:

    1. Right click on the wireless Icon in the notification area of the toolbar.
    2. Select "Network and Sharing Centre".
    3. Select "Change Adaptor Settings" in the left hand pane.
    4. Right click on the wireless adaptor with the problem.
    5. Select the configure option.
    6. The Microsoft advice was to select the "Advanced" tab and then the "IEEE"  option and disable it. I found that this option was already disabled so this wasn't my problem.
    7. As I was in the configuration area for the device I looked at the other options. Under the "Power Management" tab I found that my wireless adaptor had the "Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" option enabled. I thought this was a possibility and turned this off. Having done this I restarted the computer and the problem was solved.

    None of the above tips worked for me but I finally realized that the name of my wireless connection was changed to "Wireless Connection 2" and I could not save any access keys.

    After renaming the item back to "Wireless Connection", all saved passwords are working again.
