Active directory domain services unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) I can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: Active directory domain services unavailable.  I have verified that DNS is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active.  I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem.  I suspect a registry issue as I have the same problem regardless of what problem I try to print with.  I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print.  I noticed that these patches are for patches.  I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says I do not have the "Download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though I do.  My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Hi,

  1. Which is the edition of Windows 7 installed on the computer?
  2. Is the computer connected to domain?
  3. Are you able to print on other programs?
  4. Is printing device listed in Devices and Printers list?

We recommend you to try to access the print servers as an administrator. To troubleshoot on the device, try these steps.

  1. Click Start, click Devices and Printers.
  2. Right click on the printer item and click troubleshoot.

Re-installing the adobe program has fixed the print issue on Adobe. Check this link for more information:

    Thank you so much for supplying a fix for this problem - Previously with this same problem I wiped the whole computer and reinstalled Windows 7 home premium and all the software and documents backed up and saved. This solution worked for about three weeks with the printer working normally then for no apparent reason it stopped working saying Active directory services unavailable.

    I tried your solution and when I clicked on the find printer it 'found' the same printer as a directory link (the original installation) and also as an IP address - clicked on the IP address and it works fine now. I am running Windows 7 home premium 64bit and the printer is a HP Photosmart C7200.  Thanks Yella

    Thank you so much for posting this very simple solution!  We had spent over an hour working on the printer problem when I came across your solution.  I had my doubts, but it solved the problem.

    Kind of incredible, it worked! I open Explorer in Windows 8.1 and clicked New Item. Notepad did not come up so I checked Text Document. Turns out this is Notepad. I wrote "cat" into file, clicked print, and there was my printer; I didn't have to add a printer. I clicked print, and it printed! So then I opened a Word file, the printed was there, and it printed! I tried everything all day and it doesn't make sense that this worked but it did. This isn't the way things are done in math!

    Hi

    I have the same problem since I upgraded my Toshiba laptop to Windows 10 and thought it was another bug for Windows 10!

    "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable"

    After searching for my printer and not finding it and then clicking 'The printer I wanted isn't listed'

    I cannot right click on the printer icon because it does not exist! I am trying to install it.

    However I do have the old printer showing and after Troubleshooting I got the error:

    Package ID: DeviceCenterDiagnostic

    Path: C:\WINDOWS\Diagnostics\Index\DeviceCenterDiagnostic.xml

    User: (my Admin account)
