Active directory domain services unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) I can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: Active directory domain services unavailable.  I have verified that DNS is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active.  I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem.  I suspect a registry issue as I have the same problem regardless of what problem I try to print with.  I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print.  I noticed that these patches are for patches.  I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says I do not have the "Download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though I do.  My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Hi,

  1. Which is the edition of Windows 7 installed on the computer?
  2. Is the computer connected to domain?
  3. Are you able to print on other programs?
  4. Is printing device listed in Devices and Printers list?

We recommend you to try to access the print servers as an administrator. To troubleshoot on the device, try these steps.

  1. Click Start, click Devices and Printers.
  2. Right click on the printer item and click troubleshoot.

Re-installing the adobe program has fixed the print issue on Adobe. Check this link for more information:

    Had the same problem myself, after installing the correct driver. Scanning for hardware changes in device manager fixed it.

    hi

    config manual dns client with command netsh or Local Area Connection

    next nslookup local.domain.com

    if request time out

    use command ipconfig /registerdns

    if req time out

    edit file c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

    and type ip address  local.domain.com

    10.1.1.1 ic.net

    save and exit file

    type  again

    ipconfig /registerdns

    next time 15 min

    type nslookup

    next

    If you own a computer user, the computer will perform Active Directory identity Authentication(Join Domain Controller)

    If you use a print server, you must add the address to ping and then through َAdd Device/Contro panel

    My Samsung laserprinter does the same thing, If I restart Windows 7 and unplug the printer, it comes back on. The notepad solution below does not work, it can find the printer but wont print still. Cannot find the printer in Word, says : active directory domain services unavailable. obviously a Windows problem Microsoft cant fix, although they never admit that.

    I have had the Active directory domain services unavailable message for months whenever I tried to add a printer from Control Panel or Word.  However, I just opened Notepad, went to Find Printer and added the printer from there, and I can now print from all programmes.
