Active directory domain services unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) I can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: Active directory domain services unavailable.  I have verified that DNS is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active.  I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem.  I suspect a registry issue as I have the same problem regardless of what problem I try to print with.  I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print.  I noticed that these patches are for patches.  I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says I do not have the "Download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though I do.  My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Hi,

  1. Which is the edition of Windows 7 installed on the computer?
  2. Is the computer connected to domain?
  3. Are you able to print on other programs?
  4. Is printing device listed in Devices and Printers list?

We recommend you to try to access the print servers as an administrator. To troubleshoot on the device, try these steps.

  1. Click Start, click Devices and Printers.
  2. Right click on the printer item and click troubleshoot.

Re-installing the adobe program has fixed the print issue on Adobe. Check this link for more information:

    I have had the Active directory domain services unavailable message for months whenever I tried to add a printer from Control Panel or Word.  However, I just opened Notepad, went to Find Printer and added the printer from there, and I can now print from all programmes.

    How clever! I'm so happy to report this worked for me. It's the first time a Microsoft *error* has taken such little time to resolve. Yeehaw!

    Both the original and the newly added printer work now. This was important to me as I had some print jobs *stored* in the original for reprints.

    Thanks so much! I had this once before (years ago). Of course I didn't remember a thing about the fix I used. It wasn't this one. Naturally my only memories are about how frustrating it was.

    Akkk!  I am having this  same problem, and am TRYING to add my printer, but I can't figure out HOW to do so.  Does anyone have a bit of patience to give a newbie a bit more step-by-step guidance?  My kid's school projects are in your hands!

    I never got a satisfactory solution from Microsoft but I did discover that the upgrade [sic] from 8 to 8.1 added an extra line in one of the registry entries that ties to my print spooler.  There is a second line that simply reads "html" which, upon deletion, allowed me to print again.  This is only a partial solution.  While I can now print, I can't seem to update printer drivers.  Additionally, while I don't know if it is related, ever since I made that change, I keep getting a notice that windows updates need to be installed.  However, when I try to accept the update, the system tells me that it is "unable to make the changes and is undoing... do not turn my computer off."
