Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

For example in Winamp i can scroll up in the playlist but i have to turn the wheel several times downwards before it scrolls anything.

Also i noticed that the scrolling wheel behaves weird in photoshop when zooming and other programs, i tried the windows seven Intelipoint drivers for the 64 bit version witch i have, with no improvement whatsoever.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC (i dont remember the RC Version)

This apparently is dependant on the type of Microsoft Mouse you have.

I have a desktop and a laptop.

Desktop uses an old Intellipoint 3.0 while the laptop has a wireless Explorer Mini Mouse.

In the same applications on either machine the scrolling will be different.

The Intellipoint 3.0 will work everywhere as it should while in the same application the Explorer Mini Mouse will just flat out not scroll at all. But it depends on where in the application it is that I'm trying to scroll.

Example:

Microsoft Money:

• ABLE to scroll on Options screen, and dialog boxes.

• NOT able to scroll the account Registrar (really annoying btw)

Xara Xtreme (Imaging program)

• ABLE to scroll in options and dialog boxes, and lists (font selections, etc)

• NOT able to scroll on the main display (similar to Photoshop zooming / panning if ctrl is held while scrolling, the zoom is changed)

But, if I use switch my Intellipoint to the laptop, and use it on the same applications WITH THE SAME DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALLED (just switch which mouse I'm using in the Microsoft Mouse settings) then I can scroll all I want.

Unfortunately I've gotten used to moving to the scroll bar in certain places... but that is REALLY IRRITATING and causes more frustration than the mouse is worth sometimes.... I've had this problem for over a year, and I keep hoping that a new driver update will fix it... unfortunately it hasn't.

PS. I dont' know about you, but I really hate searching through Microsoft's "support" pages. Each page seems so Irrelevant to the terms ya searched for... ...makes things really hard to get figured out.

    Well, I agree in some degree, but I think the problem is in the approach, when MS don't finish things and move to another version just rolling the problem along, and dragging us along in the process (and spending more money, of course). This is what customers hate the most, the sense of impotency, having to adapt one's life to a product that pretty much run the lives of who works with computers every day.

    If Microsoft abandons this ADD personality, people would be way happier and faithful, generating more cash and revenue, of course. You see, you said that Windows 7 bugs will be fixed in Windows 8. I don't want Windows 8, I want my Windows 7, which is already a year with me, to work properly. And they said the same about Vista. They will probably say that the bugs of Windows 8 will be fixed in Windows 9. Anyway...

    Hi;

     I had that problem, too. The scrolling wheel doesn't work in winamo to go down in playlist and similar programs.

    I hadn't installed the driver, because the driver cd was not in the box. It is not sold with driver cd. I downloaded the driver from website of microsoft writing in research box my mouse's model and I installed it. The problem was solved. You should do this...!!!

    I can't believe it has been since January 10, 2010 and they still have not fixed this issue with the Intellipoint driver.

    This is really poor support Microsoft.

    I did however find a pseudo fix in the meantime.

    1. I pinned the Mouse properties from Control panel into the Start Menu
    2. I checked the box "Enable program-specific settings"
    3. On the Wheel tab I clicked "Identify programs that don't scroll correctly"

    3.a) I added "Windows Explorer" to the list.

    All in all, the mouse works and it is a very nice mouse.

    My consensus for this product and Microsoft.

    The hardware gets 9/10

    The software support gets 3/10 (You did have some response in this forum - although not the correct solution)

    Brilliant! Thanks.

    I didn't have IntelliMouse Explorer 3 so I just downloaded the driver

    and installed it. It fixed everything, and new settings menu seems to work for my mouse.
