Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

For example in Winamp i can scroll up in the playlist but i have to turn the wheel several times downwards before it scrolls anything.

Also i noticed that the scrolling wheel behaves weird in photoshop when zooming and other programs, i tried the windows seven Intelipoint drivers for the 64 bit version witch i have, with no improvement whatsoever.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC (i dont remember the RC Version)

This apparently is dependant on the type of Microsoft Mouse you have.

I have a desktop and a laptop.

Desktop uses an old Intellipoint 3.0 while the laptop has a wireless Explorer Mini Mouse.

In the same applications on either machine the scrolling will be different.

The Intellipoint 3.0 will work everywhere as it should while in the same application the Explorer Mini Mouse will just flat out not scroll at all. But it depends on where in the application it is that I'm trying to scroll.

Example:

Microsoft Money:

• ABLE to scroll on Options screen, and dialog boxes.

• NOT able to scroll the account Registrar (really annoying btw)

Xara Xtreme (Imaging program)

• ABLE to scroll in options and dialog boxes, and lists (font selections, etc)

• NOT able to scroll on the main display (similar to Photoshop zooming / panning if ctrl is held while scrolling, the zoom is changed)

But, if I use switch my Intellipoint to the laptop, and use it on the same applications WITH THE SAME DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALLED (just switch which mouse I'm using in the Microsoft Mouse settings) then I can scroll all I want.

Unfortunately I've gotten used to moving to the scroll bar in certain places... but that is REALLY IRRITATING and causes more frustration than the mouse is worth sometimes.... I've had this problem for over a year, and I keep hoping that a new driver update will fix it... unfortunately it hasn't.

PS. I dont' know about you, but I really hate searching through Microsoft's "support" pages. Each page seems so Irrelevant to the terms ya searched for... ...makes things really hard to get figured out.

    Have you checked the mouse settings in 'Devices and Printers'?

    Try the below methods one by one.

    Method 1:

    If you have any other mouse software that is installed, such as Logitech or touchpad software, that software may conflict with Intellimouse. To uninstall software that may conflict, follow these steps:

    1. If you have a Windows Vista-based computer, open the Programs and Features item in Control Panel. To do this, click Start button, type appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

    If you have a Windows XP-based computer, open the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel. To do this, click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.

    1. Follow the instructions to remove the software, and then restart the computer.

    Note If you are using a laptop, install the latest touchpad driver from the manufacturer's Web site. For help, contact the manufacturer. For manufacturer contact information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    Method 2: Start HID serviceTo start the Human Interface Device (HID) service, follow these steps:

    Click Start button, type services.msc in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

    1. Open the HID service. To do this, follow the steps for your version of the operating system.

    In the list of services in the details pane, double-click Human Interface Device Access.

    1. Make sure that the Startup Type value is set to Automatic.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

    HID is enabled by default and it's not a touch-pad or previous driver problem, i saw in this forum others that have the same issue with me.

    Seems that the mouse scrolling behaves weird in all adobe programs eg: when zooming.

    It's very frustrating.

    Hey.

    I have the same problem with this mouse even in Windows' own applications like Photo viewing. The zooming doesn't work properly with the scrolling wheel. It works just as bad as telas described above. And the same problem occurs with MediaMonkey music player too.

    I really hope that Microsoft will fix this matter soon. I bought a Microsoft desktop package so that my keyboard and mouse would integrate properly with my Windows 7 but that isn't happening right now! The least Microsoft should do is make its products to work properly together.

    I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

    Ditto here. I built a new Windows 7 (64bit) machine late last year and connected the Wireless Comfort Keyboard/Mouse 5000; the scroll wheel "performs" erratically depending what program I'm using. It scrolls vertically in MSWord 2003, Firefox, and CS3 Bridge, but it won't work to change values in CS3 or Silkypix. It's a royal headache.
