Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I found that if I install the Intellisense drivers for the mouse then the mouse behaviour is incorrect. I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 and have the problem of scrolling accurately. For example when I scroll it jumps 10-30 lines instead of 1/4 of a line or 1 full line. This occurrs in all applications.

The only way I got it to work like a normal mouse was to uninstall the Intellisense driver for the mouse only and then plug the wireless USB back in and let the OS install normal HID-compliant mouse driver.

I don't get the some of the extra features of the mouse like smooth side-ways scrolling or HD scrolling (less then 1 line), but everything else seems to work as expected and including scrolling 1 line at a time in almost all applications.

I still might return this however, because it doesn't work as I expected it to work and is basically the equivelant of a cheap $20 wireless mouse.

My wired microsoft mouse 'comfort mouse 4500' has the same problem. The wheel can not do scroll up in matlab 2010b help browser, unless I flick it in most speed. And even though it just scroll up a little......

My OS is win7 x64, and the mouse driver with intellipoint soft are updated.

 I notice this question was put up at 20091216,today is 20110306......Why after two years more, a microsoft made mouse still shows such **** bug on your own OS???? I dont think this bug is caused by new components character such as the 'Tilt wheel', because it do well in other soft. And I am sure it is not bug of the specific soft, because even 8 years old logitech mouse works well on it!!!! Why you cant adjust the driver or intellipoint soft to make it works like a normal mouse???? 

In replys someone said it can be solved by install the old intellipoint soft and change the mouse type to some classic one.........it's a pathetic solution. And I will not buy any hardware MS made.

Im having the exact same issue with Wireless Mouse 5000.

I managed to change the mouse type to Intellimouse 4.0 and the scroll got super fast (better than super-slow as before, in all applications). But now I am having problems with middle clicking to open new tabs while browsing.

Anyone also having this issue?

I must thank Win7-Geek and Telas for the big help, since I was thinking my mouse was "suffering of bad luck"!

I had a different old MS set but, still under warranty. My old (optical) mouse had its left button defective, although the wheel button ever worked flawlessly, with "normal behaviour". Thus, I needed to send the entire set for analysis, and the crew told me they don't have the product in stock. An import was needed and a deadline for the delivery was stipulated. Oh, but almost all the schedules they mentioned were delayed, since my initial contact, the product analysis, until I had a new one with me.

But well, I was surprised yesterday they sent me a new set, and there was the Wireless Mouse 5000. I lost some time to figure out how to get the software installed - because of an issue I will tell additionally at the end of this message -, but soon I saw myself in front of the "Mysteryous Wheel".

First of all, I worked to change the wheel button default function (Instant Viewer!!!) to the "never obvious" middle click, since I use it pretty often. My PC runs with Windows XP SP3, so the thumbnails was a really cool add-on, but I preferred the click to take actions like, for such an example, open new tabs web browsers.

And voilà, a new issue arose: the "middle click" function intermittently decided to stop working while surfing the web. The scroll function had a similar behaviour, but with lesser events. function to the button to test this "bug", like "Show/hide desktop", and it happened like the last case.

After searching hard for some information, I finally arrived to this forum and saw your contributions, the workarounds and the recent page created by MS Team to receive feedback about this issue. It seems that the wheel was a marvellous advance for mankind, but it works not so good if we drive with no brakes. Well, I digress.

Back for the middle click problem, I was sad in thinking of posting back the products, in having more delays and waiting, blablabla.But if the trouble was happening exactly because of the extreme sensitivity of the wheel, since I think it does not perform the middle click function properly while the wheel moves? So, does anyone experience the same problem as me? And even for those who does not, anyone could test it and post feedback, like using the "true" middle click feature on web browsers' links?

Finally, the "additional issue":

As I described before, I had some problem to install Intellitype and Intellypro software, because I got "Error 1603" message every time the setup reached its final part. I tried ALL the steps of Microsoft help page, changing permissions, cleaning temp folder, clean starting windows, reinstalling Microsoft Installer, etc., with no luck.

Again, I think to myself about a problem I had months ago, trying to install a newer version from a program (Ad-Aware), and I always got stuck with a fatal error, something related toMicrosoft Installer... And the only way I discovered to have it working was downloading an EN-US version of the installer, since the original one was localized (Windows version here is localized, too). I decided to try it with IntelliPoint and IntelliType too, and guess what? Installing completed!

So here is the other question: anyone of you ever heard (or had) a similar problem involving localized Windows versions "rejecting" localized .msi packages, and only finishing installations via EN-US (often the "main source") files?
