Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

For example in Winamp i can scroll up in the playlist but i have to turn the wheel several times downwards before it scrolls anything.

Also i noticed that the scrolling wheel behaves weird in photoshop when zooming and other programs, i tried the windows seven Intelipoint drivers for the 64 bit version witch i have, with no improvement whatsoever.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC (i dont remember the RC Version)

This apparently is dependant on the type of Microsoft Mouse you have.

I have a desktop and a laptop.

Desktop uses an old Intellipoint 3.0 while the laptop has a wireless Explorer Mini Mouse.

In the same applications on either machine the scrolling will be different.

The Intellipoint 3.0 will work everywhere as it should while in the same application the Explorer Mini Mouse will just flat out not scroll at all. But it depends on where in the application it is that I'm trying to scroll.

Example:

Microsoft Money:

• ABLE to scroll on Options screen, and dialog boxes.

• NOT able to scroll the account Registrar (really annoying btw)

Xara Xtreme (Imaging program)

• ABLE to scroll in options and dialog boxes, and lists (font selections, etc)

• NOT able to scroll on the main display (similar to Photoshop zooming / panning if ctrl is held while scrolling, the zoom is changed)

But, if I use switch my Intellipoint to the laptop, and use it on the same applications WITH THE SAME DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALLED (just switch which mouse I'm using in the Microsoft Mouse settings) then I can scroll all I want.

Unfortunately I've gotten used to moving to the scroll bar in certain places... but that is REALLY IRRITATING and causes more frustration than the mouse is worth sometimes.... I've had this problem for over a year, and I keep hoping that a new driver update will fix it... unfortunately it hasn't.

PS. I dont' know about you, but I really hate searching through Microsoft's "support" pages. Each page seems so Irrelevant to the terms ya searched for... ...makes things really hard to get figured out.

    hi,

    After you install the driver. Try changing the type of your mouse. You can do that inside the settings on the mouse under the picture of the mouse,

    change the type, try it if it works. if not choose another type ... try them all till you find a mouse-type that makes your mouse work. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the same physical mouse that you have.

    In case this doesn’t work either. Then try installing the mouse driver in XP mode. Although that’s not recommended (I have never tried that yet!) because it sucks out the memory for a trivial thing,, a mouse!

    If nothing works at all! Then I am afraid i can’t help on this. you either need to replace your desktop set (keyboard and mouse), Or your operating system

    I would blame Windows 7 Engineers for not testing properly Microsoft hardware on their very own operating system! Ridiculous, isn’t it?

    hi,

    I understand wat ur telling.. i have downloaded and installed both softwares.. but for mouse i am facing same issue.. scroll speed is very hgih even though its very min in settings.. i selected correct mouse and installed 2 times.. still facing issue..

    thats wat i am trying to tell..

    it gives same intellipoint and intellitype pro software to download which i downloaded first.. i really need help!!!!!!!!!!!! microsoft is asking my $35 to provide support for mouse!!!!!!!

    Is there a certain program/driver you are expecting to download? Is there a name in your mind that you are looking for but you can’t find it? Isn’t your mouse "wireless mouse 5000" ??

    For the hardware you mentioned earlier, The last link I sent you is what you need.

     And yes the name of the driver package is IntelliPoint 7.0 one for the mouse (IntelliPoint 7.0) and another for the keyboard (IntelliType Pro 7.0)

    After you install the mouse driver (IntelliPoint 7.0) you go to the device manager (either from the control panel or from the start menu under the name (Devices and printers) then you choose to change the setting of your mouse AND THERE you can choose a different sort of mouse from a drop-down list in the window of mouse settings!

    hope this help ...

    However it seems that you have another problem that you have not explained!
