Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

For example in Winamp i can scroll up in the playlist but i have to turn the wheel several times downwards before it scrolls anything.

Also i noticed that the scrolling wheel behaves weird in photoshop when zooming and other programs, i tried the windows seven Intelipoint drivers for the 64 bit version witch i have, with no improvement whatsoever.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC (i dont remember the RC Version)

This apparently is dependant on the type of Microsoft Mouse you have.

I have a desktop and a laptop.

Desktop uses an old Intellipoint 3.0 while the laptop has a wireless Explorer Mini Mouse.

In the same applications on either machine the scrolling will be different.

The Intellipoint 3.0 will work everywhere as it should while in the same application the Explorer Mini Mouse will just flat out not scroll at all. But it depends on where in the application it is that I'm trying to scroll.

Example:

Microsoft Money:

• ABLE to scroll on Options screen, and dialog boxes.

• NOT able to scroll the account Registrar (really annoying btw)

Xara Xtreme (Imaging program)

• ABLE to scroll in options and dialog boxes, and lists (font selections, etc)

• NOT able to scroll on the main display (similar to Photoshop zooming / panning if ctrl is held while scrolling, the zoom is changed)

But, if I use switch my Intellipoint to the laptop, and use it on the same applications WITH THE SAME DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALLED (just switch which mouse I'm using in the Microsoft Mouse settings) then I can scroll all I want.

Unfortunately I've gotten used to moving to the scroll bar in certain places... but that is REALLY IRRITATING and causes more frustration than the mouse is worth sometimes.... I've had this problem for over a year, and I keep hoping that a new driver update will fix it... unfortunately it hasn't.

PS. I dont' know about you, but I really hate searching through Microsoft's "support" pages. Each page seems so Irrelevant to the terms ya searched for... ...makes things really hard to get figured out.

    Your solution also works with the mouses in Microsoft wireless desktop 3000 and Wireless comfort desktop 5000 with the exact same problems in this thread. Thanks a lot.

    Hi Telas

    Since I got my new desktop a year ago (which has AMD quad-core 64bit) with my new lovely Microsoft Mouse “Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2” and i am suffering from the same issues you mentioned.

    OS: First OS I used then was Win7 Beta 32bit, then Win7 RC 32bit then the final release Win7 Enterprise 64bit, on the same machine!

    In all situations that mouse behaved EXACTLY in the same retarded way!

    Amazingly when I tried my wired IntelliMouse Explorer 3 on these OS’s it worked fine!!!

    DRIVER: The software available is IntelliMouse 7.0 which is designed for most kinds of mice but in the interface you can choose you mouse type. And you can always change that type even after installation

    Side scroll in general is useless and not practical

    Main scroll works naturally/oddly selectively in programs, Moreover, on selected places and menus in different programs!

    Examples:

    MATLAB: the scroll works only if I turn it at the speed of light

    Office 2007: Zooming functionality with Ctrl pressed works only if I scroll at the speed of light

    Photoshop CS4: changing items in menus (blending, number that expresses a size or colour, font type ...etc) NEVER WORKS

    Solution

    This solution works fine for me so far I just tried it today. Go to the mouse Properties, in the buttons tab, Go to “Connected device” just under the photo of the mouse.

    Change the type of the mouse to something that works!!! For me I chose IntelliMouse Explorer 3 for the following reasons:  Both mice (Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2 and IntelliMouse Explorer 3) has the same set of buttons, even somehow similar shape!

    This worked perfectly for me, if you have a Wireless mouse 5000, then change to IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0, as this (although looks and has a different button layout) will keep all your mouse settings and features, as though you never changed it. Thank you Win7-Geek!

    oh and Microsoft, although being a big company, is in most opinion annoying. :D

    Win7-Geek, your tip of changing the mouse type works perfectly for me.

    I have a Comfort Optical Mouse 3000, connected to an HP laptop running Vista (corporate machine).

    The default Vista drivers were OK with this mouse, but I had some issues with choosing left hand/right hand operation, so I installed Intellipoint 7.0 (big mistake).

    Outlook scrolling via the wheel changed.  The "All mail folders" pane - before wheel-scrollable - now not scrollable.

    Using your tip, I changed mouse type to "intellimouse explorer 3.0" and bingo, the wheel scrolling works again.  Had to turn down the sensitivity (i.e. set to "slower") presumably there are more 'clicks per rev' on my actual mouse.  But it works again - thanks a lot.

    Microsoft's "bing" search engine on their own knowledgebase text (!!!) totally sucks.  I have come across so many broken links recently,  that give good ol' "error 404" where previously there must have been some useful helptext.  Quite why MS can't get this together I have no idea.  Tip:  usually you can find the info (either current, or cached) if you drop back to Google and use the right keywords... ;-)

    Very ridiculous.. Microsoft Became a ____!!!! i bought their product and it became useless!!! i did their certification and now i cant even see my own certificate!!!!!! (website problem from past 1 week!!! )
