Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

For example in Winamp i can scroll up in the playlist but i have to turn the wheel several times downwards before it scrolls anything.

Also i noticed that the scrolling wheel behaves weird in photoshop when zooming and other programs, i tried the windows seven Intelipoint drivers for the 64 bit version witch i have, with no improvement whatsoever.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC (i dont remember the RC Version)

This apparently is dependant on the type of Microsoft Mouse you have.

I have a desktop and a laptop.

Desktop uses an old Intellipoint 3.0 while the laptop has a wireless Explorer Mini Mouse.

In the same applications on either machine the scrolling will be different.

The Intellipoint 3.0 will work everywhere as it should while in the same application the Explorer Mini Mouse will just flat out not scroll at all. But it depends on where in the application it is that I'm trying to scroll.

Example:

Microsoft Money:

• ABLE to scroll on Options screen, and dialog boxes.

• NOT able to scroll the account Registrar (really annoying btw)

Xara Xtreme (Imaging program)

• ABLE to scroll in options and dialog boxes, and lists (font selections, etc)

• NOT able to scroll on the main display (similar to Photoshop zooming / panning if ctrl is held while scrolling, the zoom is changed)

But, if I use switch my Intellipoint to the laptop, and use it on the same applications WITH THE SAME DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALLED (just switch which mouse I'm using in the Microsoft Mouse settings) then I can scroll all I want.

Unfortunately I've gotten used to moving to the scroll bar in certain places... but that is REALLY IRRITATING and causes more frustration than the mouse is worth sometimes.... I've had this problem for over a year, and I keep hoping that a new driver update will fix it... unfortunately it hasn't.

PS. I dont' know about you, but I really hate searching through Microsoft's "support" pages. Each page seems so Irrelevant to the terms ya searched for... ...makes things really hard to get figured out.

    I'm very happy for you guys who got it sorted; however, for me it never worked as I needed it to work: I consider my mouse&keyboard the most basic devices, and expect them to perform at least as reliable as the old IBM stuff. If even that cannot be achieved with modern hardware, than it's time to move on.

    I just paid the difference and got my Wave Pro from Logitech, and this one works perfectly till now. The mouse, a MX1100, has high resolution wheel as well; but it also has a button that allows you to switch to a classic, notched wheel. However... guess what: the high res wheel works perfectly!!! As for the tracking, it's a laser mouse, but I never did plan on using the carpet as a pad :\

    If Microsoft could have only maintained basic functionality, this Logitech would never have stood on my desktop.

    I think you'll find it is a solution - Microsoft messed up, and so we found a way to get around it, and if many people say it works, then it's a solution, technically...

    And I understand how you mean about the wheel but it's not that bad, sure it's not the best mouse I'd expect it to be, and against logitech, I know who's going to win, being that logitech are a dedicated accessories company... of course it's going to be better in ways, they have the new Darkfield light technology that means using a mouse on a glass surface...

    But still it's highly irritating that we have to find solutions like this, you'd think even Microsoft wouldn't make an error this bad... I'll just go and ask the help servi-- oh wait... it's Microsoft, I forgot.

    This is hardly a solution, not mentioning that whatever type of mouse I select in the Intellipoint driver it's not working correctly - not a surprise. Even if I manage to fix the wheel with one mouse type, there are other problems, like latency or skipping that appear with the change, so in the end the original Wireless Mouse 5000 works best - at least for me. Sure, I struggle in Illustrator and I can hardly imagine playing a game with this type of wheel, but that's no problem... there's only 2-3 more days that I have to put up with this Wireless Desktop 3000 kit - I ordered a Logitech Cordless Wave Pro replacement.

    The sad thing is that I really like this set, but I cannot live with one thing: the scroll wheel. If only that would have been notched, or having the option, like Logitech has, this kit would have been a keeper for me. As a matter of fact, I am really saddened that this would be the 1st piece of hardware I return ever, not being able to fix it after a week of searching the forums 'round the web for a true solution to the damn wheel... way to go, Microsoft...

    I probably won't be any help here, but at a guess, I'd say that this could possibly be a fault? I don't think I've ever experienced this with my mouse, and if it's not the batteries, than I can only suggest a fault with the mouse. Don't take my whole advice cause I could be totally wrong! But that's what I'd say it was, cause I don't see how the software is like terrible enough to even cause havoc with the optic blue light-thing.
