Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

For example in Winamp i can scroll up in the playlist but i have to turn the wheel several times downwards before it scrolls anything.

Also i noticed that the scrolling wheel behaves weird in photoshop when zooming and other programs, i tried the windows seven Intelipoint drivers for the 64 bit version witch i have, with no improvement whatsoever.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC (i dont remember the RC Version)

This apparently is dependant on the type of Microsoft Mouse you have.

I have a desktop and a laptop.

Desktop uses an old Intellipoint 3.0 while the laptop has a wireless Explorer Mini Mouse.

In the same applications on either machine the scrolling will be different.

The Intellipoint 3.0 will work everywhere as it should while in the same application the Explorer Mini Mouse will just flat out not scroll at all. But it depends on where in the application it is that I'm trying to scroll.

Example:

Microsoft Money:

• ABLE to scroll on Options screen, and dialog boxes.

• NOT able to scroll the account Registrar (really annoying btw)

Xara Xtreme (Imaging program)

• ABLE to scroll in options and dialog boxes, and lists (font selections, etc)

• NOT able to scroll on the main display (similar to Photoshop zooming / panning if ctrl is held while scrolling, the zoom is changed)

But, if I use switch my Intellipoint to the laptop, and use it on the same applications WITH THE SAME DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALLED (just switch which mouse I'm using in the Microsoft Mouse settings) then I can scroll all I want.

Unfortunately I've gotten used to moving to the scroll bar in certain places... but that is REALLY IRRITATING and causes more frustration than the mouse is worth sometimes.... I've had this problem for over a year, and I keep hoping that a new driver update will fix it... unfortunately it hasn't.

PS. I dont' know about you, but I really hate searching through Microsoft's "support" pages. Each page seems so Irrelevant to the terms ya searched for... ...makes things really hard to get figured out.

    Windows 7 is faster, smoother, prettier, handier, sexier.... but not perfect! nothing is perfect in the whole world! (and Apple can lie forever to her customers about the bestest OS in the world.. YAWN!!)

    Win7 bugs will be fixed in win8 thats the game. As for the Hate and Love relationship between MS and the customers. its a long story.

    MS is a huge company with billions of customers. MS cannot satisfy every single customer, Yet we want MS to be perfect because we want to pay money for perfect stuff and we always expect the best from the biggest company in IT.. well MS is run by humans mate!

    in MS, they do mess things up and annoy customers big time. sometimes they use dog $h!t for icing their cakes! they dont get it right all the time. they do have some weird engineers who dont have the same common sense that we have. thus some times MS has deaf ears towards us the customers. Also it seems to me that if they get it right too much they end up in the court for monopoly reasons! they can get it right all the time but they do not want to.

    It's like a massive Dinasaur who must move slowly and smoothly to keep creatures around it alive! if that dinasaur moves fast it smashes everything on its way! and end up being shot dead!

    I'll try what you sugested, I just need time to sit and look at it.

    On Windows 7... Well, it has some nice features, but I strongly depend on the OS to deliver my work in time, and then I just tend to love reliability. But strangely enough now I have 16GB of RAM and my XP was faster in most cases. In this regard I should say that Windows 7 is a flop. XP is a lovely OS in my opinion. They should upgrade it, revamp the interface, allows more RAM and I bet that most Microsoft customers would stick with it.

    And then they are already talking about Windows 8, which makes me think: "They will stop working on the bugs of Windows 7 and I will be forced to migrate to 8 later on and face the same beta tester experience that I am facing now."

    Then they question why Microsoft customers have such a love and hate relationship with the company. Once a Microsoft customer is gone, they never come back. It happened to me with the browser, because now I can't live without Safari, and one day will happen with the OS altogether.

    But this is just my two cents on the subject.

    Windows 7 is an amazing OS. the issue is that Microsoft Failed to support their own hardware on their own platform properly.. You know. they are busy supporting the Mac community and iPhone owners in the Business market !!! anyway.

    Try the solution i stated at the begining of this forum (try the new intellipoint software). It it does not work at all then i am afraid the only thing you can do is to get a different mouse.

    I would never go back to XP :-)

    Guys, what a pain... The wheel of my Wireless Mouse 5000 sucks with Safari in Windows 7. And the weird stuff is that it worked like butter with Safari in XP. With IE it works so so, too loose for my taste, but at least it scrolls, but with Safari it does not work unless I check Safari in the programs that don't scroll correctly, and when I does it scrolls in leaps, when I lose track of the line that I was looking at. Note, I can't even bare to think to use IE as my standard browser.

    Sincerely, Windows 7 is a bag of bugs, years after its beta launch and even more years after Vista was launched, which is a sparring version. So, this is unacceptable, especially because these features were working perfectly in XP.

    I tried Windows 7 in December 2010 and I had to go back to XP. It almost made nuts, and now, almost a year later, things improved some, but this is still far from a shelve product. Now I know how a beta tester fells like. The difference is that I am paying for it.
