Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

For example in Winamp i can scroll up in the playlist but i have to turn the wheel several times downwards before it scrolls anything.

Also i noticed that the scrolling wheel behaves weird in photoshop when zooming and other programs, i tried the windows seven Intelipoint drivers for the 64 bit version witch i have, with no improvement whatsoever.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC (i dont remember the RC Version)

This apparently is dependant on the type of Microsoft Mouse you have.

I have a desktop and a laptop.

Desktop uses an old Intellipoint 3.0 while the laptop has a wireless Explorer Mini Mouse.

In the same applications on either machine the scrolling will be different.

The Intellipoint 3.0 will work everywhere as it should while in the same application the Explorer Mini Mouse will just flat out not scroll at all. But it depends on where in the application it is that I'm trying to scroll.

Example:

Microsoft Money:

• ABLE to scroll on Options screen, and dialog boxes.

• NOT able to scroll the account Registrar (really annoying btw)

Xara Xtreme (Imaging program)

• ABLE to scroll in options and dialog boxes, and lists (font selections, etc)

• NOT able to scroll on the main display (similar to Photoshop zooming / panning if ctrl is held while scrolling, the zoom is changed)

But, if I use switch my Intellipoint to the laptop, and use it on the same applications WITH THE SAME DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALLED (just switch which mouse I'm using in the Microsoft Mouse settings) then I can scroll all I want.

Unfortunately I've gotten used to moving to the scroll bar in certain places... but that is REALLY IRRITATING and causes more frustration than the mouse is worth sometimes.... I've had this problem for over a year, and I keep hoping that a new driver update will fix it... unfortunately it hasn't.

PS. I dont' know about you, but I really hate searching through Microsoft's "support" pages. Each page seems so Irrelevant to the terms ya searched for... ...makes things really hard to get figured out.

    To conclude this bug question, I copyed my answer from another post.

    The bug has been fixed in windows update today with intellipoint driver version 8.1.

    They have changed the default scrolling value to 90/-90, and now you can define a non-compatible application list in the mouse scrolling properties settings.

    Weeks ago I have googled a solution in Russian.....that is edit the ApplicationSpecific.xml file. Annotation of that file shows the bug is already well known to the developers of intellipoint, so it is very easy to add a non-smooth scrolling exception manually. I am really disappointed, because as the google results showed ,microsoft have let the little bug lie for years.

    Maybe the smooth scrolling is a good thing, but you should not trouble the ignorant end users before enfore the software developers to accept it. And now you change the "30" to "90"....my 4500 mouse seems loose some scrolling accuracy in browser, but the little start backward when scrolling is also disappeared. It's well. But why dont you just make the 30-90-120 value a user choice? If you cant make a config suit every user, then you should make it configurable to every user.

    i just wanted to say thank you so much! even microsoft didn't know how to solve this problem! you should go there and help them to work :P

    i really begining to hate microsoft.

    anyway i just wanted to add that if you want the best result of scrolling and using all the buttons(side scroll too!!)**** you should chose the IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0. I checked everyone, and I'm using the Wireless Mouse 5000.

    i hope i could help too cause that really frustrated me.

    I found that if I install the Intellisense drivers for the mouse then the mouse behaviour is incorrect. I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 and have the problem of scrolling accurately. For example when I scroll it jumps 10-30 lines instead of 1/4 of a line or 1 full line. This occurrs in all applications.

    The only way I got it to work like a normal mouse was to uninstall the Intellisense driver for the mouse only and then plug the wireless USB back in and let the OS install normal HID-compliant mouse driver.

    I don't get the some of the extra features of the mouse like smooth side-ways scrolling or HD scrolling (less then 1 line), but everything else seems to work as expected and including scrolling 1 line at a time in almost all applications.

    I still might return this however, because it doesn't work as I expected it to work and is basically the equivelant of a cheap $20 wireless mouse.

    My wired microsoft mouse 'comfort mouse 4500' has the same problem. The wheel can not do scroll up in matlab 2010b help browser, unless I flick it in most speed. And even though it just scroll up a little......

    My OS is win7 x64, and the mouse driver with intellipoint soft are updated.

     I notice this question was put up at 20091216,today is 20110306......Why after two years more, a microsoft made mouse still shows such **** bug on your own OS???? I dont think this bug is caused by new components character such as the 'Tilt wheel', because it do well in other soft. And I am sure it is not bug of the specific soft, because even 8 years old logitech mouse works well on it!!!! Why you cant adjust the driver or intellipoint soft to make it works like a normal mouse???? 

    In replys someone said it can be solved by install the old intellipoint soft and change the mouse type to some classic one.........it's a pathetic solution. And I will not buy any hardware MS made.
