Error 2738 could not access VBScript run time for custom action.

I'm attempting to activate my Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go device on my Acer Aspire 1410 running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.  The installation aborts mid-way through with Error 2738 -- could not access VBScript run time for custom action.  I was able to successfully install on my wife's HP with the same OS, so the problem is not with the Broadband2Go device.  Command "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" did not fix the problem.

Microsoft has created a Fix-It for this!  

What this Fix it does is to remove incorrect or corrupt registry entries that interfere with VB support in windows and then re-registers the DLL ensuring that the correct registry setting are there. After running the Fix it solution you may be able to immediately  try the operation that previously gave you the error, but to be sure, a reboot is suggested. This will address similar issues with other programs as well and not just the applications that are specifically mentioned in this thread.

    The Broadband2Go software works fine on an HP Laptop also running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium as well as another HP laptop running XP.  Therefore, I've concluded my problem is with the OS on my Acer Aspire 1410.  I've also encounter a couple of other VBScript problems on the Aspire.  The calendar gadget displays only an orange background and not the date.  The website www.w3chools.com has some simple VBScript examples that don't work on the Acer, but work fine on the both HP machines mentioned above.  I think we need to focus on VBScript on the Acer Aspire.

    Problem solved!  None of the abovementioned recommendations worked, so I reloaded Windows 7 to initial factory settings and all is well.

    Is there anything that doesn't involve reinstalling? as since most new laptops do not provide CD's I have no way of reloading.  I kinda find it hard to believe that there is no patch for this as it seems quite wide spread? or at least that is what google is tellin me when I searched for answers and got the same things, but they don't work.
