My computer keeps shutting down...help please!

My computer shuts down unexpectedly...no warnings no error messages. I just installed Windows 7 successfully and it shut down after a few minutes online. Sometimes it shuts down after 2 or 3 minutes, sometimes longer. I was hoping it was a virus, so I did a clean install with Windows 7. Looks like that didn't help. Could it be the hard drive? Is there any way to troubleshoot what the problem could be? Could something inside the computer be loose? Any help would be really appreciated!

I have the same problem, but if this happens too often in a short space of time, my pc will goto startup repair. Once repair runs it's course i always get a message saying it's because of an Mp3 player or other audio device i had attatched to my pc and that i should remove this device.

The only device i had attatched was my £500 Mp3 mixer which i removed and the problem stopped, so i took my mp3 mixer to a repair shop thinking something was wrong with it. Turns out there was nothing wrong with it cause the pc has started again and the engineer said everything was fine. I'd just like to thank Microsoft cause now that something serious has happened to the Mp3 mixer, as it was opened to search for a problem that is actually with Windows 7, the opening has voided the warranty, so i've ended up £500 out of pocket, my music career has been in limbo for nearly 6 months now, and i'm still no nearer the solution.

It should be illegal for you to release such a buggy operating system, i can't begin to tell you how angry i am about this and no doubt some microsoft dude will come on here and say it's all my fault and Bill Gates, the richest man in the world will be sat happily counting my wasted cash while my career takes a nose dive. If you were a local shop i bet they'd take the pc and fix it for free for all the problems, whereas microsoft will leave the solving up to random people...

It is more likely to be a hardware issue than anything else. I'd suspect and check three things:

    1. Overheating
    2. Power supply issues.
    3. Bad RAM.

I too had this problem and i boiled it down to an over heating problem on the Ram fan. Just take off the back of your laptop and clean away the dust build up on the vent mesh with a toothbrush. problem solved for me i thought it was a software or a hardware problem but after cleaning all air vents the laptop has not shut down as of yet in the past week.

    Hope this helps
