My computer shuts down unexpectedly...no warnings no error messages. I just installed Windows 7 successfully and it shut down after a few minutes online. Sometimes it shuts down after 2 or 3 minutes, sometimes longer. I was hoping it was a virus, so I did a clean install with Windows 7. Looks like that didn't help. Could it be the hard drive? Is there any way to troubleshoot what the problem could be? Could something inside the computer be loose? Any help would be really appreciated!

Mine does this too. It started months ago and always does it on a Tuesday. I tried to find out if it is a programme I've accidentally set to update weekly and shut down afterwards, but I can't find one anywhere in scheduled updates and it is driving me mad! It literally just goes straight to a shutdown without any timed warning so that I can close my programmes quickly first, just goes to purple screen and says 'Shutting Down'. I'm getting a new laptop tomorrow, and hope that when I have saved everything to an external HDD, I don't get the same problem when I transfer it over to the new one! I guess if I do, it will prove it's a programme or app causing the problem, but I will still be none the wiser which one! Gahhh!
I've tried Microsoft for help, and also HP as this is an HP Pavilion laptop, but couldn't get an answer with anything they suggested. Nothing I tried solved the problem so I have given up. I just hope it will be gone when I start using the new one.
I hope you get a solution to the problem soon, I will be happy to know if anything works myself, in case I still need the help too.
I went to power supply in the control panel and changed from power saver to HP recommended.
So far it has stopped shutting down on me. Maybe this will work for you too.
Car.
Thanks! I'll check it out!
I hope it works for you
