Numeric Keypad doesn't work

Since installing Windows 7 (from Vista) my numeric keypad does not work (and yes I have checked that the Num Lock is on).  I've checked that the driver is current and cleaned the keyboard and contacts.  Funny thing is when I moved the keyboard to another computer, the numeric keypad worked fine.  I hooked up the keyboard from that computer and the numeric pad would not work.    I checked the properties and they have the same drivers.  What could cause this error on just one computer (both were updated at the same time)?

Hi ifsandorbuts,

·         Is it a USB keyboard? If yes, then try connecting the keyboard to different USB port and check if the issue still occurs. Let us know the results.

Even try enabling numeric keypad and check if it helps, here are the steps:

1.       Open On-Screen Keyboard by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking On-Screen Keyboard.

2.       Click Options, select the Numeric Keypad check box, and then click OK.

    I have excatly the same problem. I followed your instructions but still doesn't work (I also checked that the NumLock was activated). Please help me. All the keys but the number work in my  Logitech numeric pad. What should I do?

    Great suggestion.  What worked for me was unchecking everything in "Make keyboard easier to use".

    Thanks Hemal Kapasi.  This was the problem with my Logitech usb keyboards.

    For Window 8 users and tech newbies, I have detailed the steps Hemal Kapasi gave to make it easier for you to follow:

    The problem may be the "Mouse" setting.  Windows 8 lets you use the number pad as a mouse.  You have to turn "off" this feature for the numeric pad to work as a numeric pad rather than as a substitute mouse.  Follow the directions below to turn this feature/option off.

    1.   Click the "Windows" key on the keyboard.
    2.   Go to PC Settings.
    3.   Go to "Ease of Access" in the left column of the first or home window for 'PC settings.'
    4.   Go to "Mouse" in the left column and select.
    5.   Under "Mouse keys," there is a setting entitled "Use numeric keypad to move mouse around the screen."  Turn the button to "off."
    6.   Exit "Ease of Access;"  Exit "PC settings."

    This should fix the problem.  Now you can enjoy making spreadsheets again.
