i have set my screen saver to bubbles, after approx an hour or so the bubbles on the screen are whizzing by very very fast. no other issues with screen saver. system recovers after mouse wiggle or key press. havent tried any other saver.
dx up to date, vid drivers up to date
running W7 64 bit
duel vid cards gtx275 sli

I did some 2min research and found this site Here . This "mod" doesnt really change the settings for the speed but it does allow you to tweak some other stuff for the bubbles screensaver. Just have a mess with some of the settings and see how things go from there. Sorry if this sounds vague but its all i can think up of right now - better than nothing i guess. M$ really does need to fix this, theyve nothing for ages now :(
I am having this issue too. Started when I got a new monitor not matched with my older one in a dual set up. Win 7. Have always had dual monitors, but this is the only thing new and now the bubbles are racing on both screens when I return to the computer.
I know exact;y what you're talking about. It seems to be a problem Microsoft created without knowing it.
It only seems to happen to me when I have more than one background selected for my desktop, and they are trying to rotate every so often. My bubbles go crazy, and instead of floating rather randomly around my desktop, they begin to fly in formation like an angry swarm of very fat bees.
It doesn't seem to do that when I just select one background. You might give that a try. Themes are great in theory, but they don't seem to work with that particular screensaver -- which is the only really nice one included in Windows 7.
A coworker of mine had this issue. I found this web site: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2139-bubbles-screen-saver-change-settings.html and used the registry hacks to create these entries in her registry:

You should be able to take the bold text above, copy it into Notepad, save it as a .reg file, and merge it into your registry.

This basically sets the screen saver to display fewer bubbles than the default, they're also slightly larger too, and they display on a black screen vs. the default of using your current desktop background. It produces a much calmer set of bubbles and fixed her machine :)
Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. The same thing happens to me. I also have a list of 10 or so other "strange" things that happen, like going to the desk top screen on it's own, my home page has changed, my locked screen picture has changed on it's own etc....I have McAfee installed but keep getting a message that my subscription has expired! Are these things all connected to windows 8 I wonder? I think I should have stayed with windows XP.
