This is the answer --- I installed Synaptics for Vista even though I have Windows 7 --- they work beautifully together. You can then disable your touchpad and us a bluetooth mouse and the problem is solved!!! It's great.

I had Windows Vista Home Premium installed on my Sony VAIO PCG-5KSP laptop computer.
It never happened before, but after I installed Windows 7 the touchpad sensitivity went through the roof. The cursor constantly will be "clicked" by my finger or wrist and move to where the mouse is located while I am typing.
It's already happened twice while typing this! I have already tried searching for TouchPad and looked under Control Panel > Mouse >
There is no tab for Properties/Settings with Sensitivity. Under Properties is only shows General, Driver, and Details, and if I click on Change Settings it again only has General, Driver, and Detail tabs.
Where can I change the stupid touchpad sensitivity??

2012-05-06T19:09:58+00:00 here's one solution that helped in my case. i realize this is an old thread, but i just purchased a Sony Vaio with Windows 7 and immediately experienced sensitivity problems with the touchpad. primarily, when i tap or double tap the mouse tends to move around (extremely frustrating).
to expericment i went into the mouse settings and clicked on the "driver" tab. on a whim i clicked on the button that says "roll back driver". after restarting the computer i notice a 100% difference in the way the touchpad responds. doesn't tend to be as jumpy and stays in place when tapping to click. anyway that worked for me. i tried the synaptics driver that another member posted but that caused even more troubles for me.

2012-05-25T07:13:04+00:00 I tried to do this but 'Roll Back Driver' is greyed out so couldn't click on it. I've disabled the touch pad as it's really driving me mad and using an external mouse. I wondered if it's possible that there's something underneath that is affecting it (like crumbs or dust!). Sometimes it works, but often it does its own thing and randomly opens menus. I haven't tried uninstalling the driver yet as it's a bit more complicated.

-Open the control panel
-Click "Appearance and Personalization"
-Click "change mouse pointers"
-Click on the "Buttons" tab at the top
-Adjust the "Double Click Speed" slider right for faster.
This took care of the issue for me on a Toshiba Satellite, but should work on any system. NOT very user friendly though!
