This is the answer --- I installed Synaptics for Vista even though I have Windows 7 --- they work beautifully together. You can then disable your touchpad and us a bluetooth mouse and the problem is solved!!! It's great.

I had Windows Vista Home Premium installed on my Sony VAIO PCG-5KSP laptop computer.
It never happened before, but after I installed Windows 7 the touchpad sensitivity went through the roof. The cursor constantly will be "clicked" by my finger or wrist and move to where the mouse is located while I am typing.
It's already happened twice while typing this! I have already tried searching for TouchPad and looked under Control Panel > Mouse >
There is no tab for Properties/Settings with Sensitivity. Under Properties is only shows General, Driver, and Details, and if I click on Change Settings it again only has General, Driver, and Detail tabs.
Where can I change the stupid touchpad sensitivity??

2010-09-18T15:38:43+00:00 I had the same problem on my Toshiba Satelite after I replaced Vista with Windows 7 (64-bit). There is actually a way to change the touchpad sensitivity in Windows 7 without installing or uninstalling any drivers or other bits: Open the Start Menu, then click Control Panel >Devices and Printers > Mouse > Device Settings > Settings > Sensitivity > Palm Check, then adjust the slider toward Maximum, and click OK. I use mine set all the way to Maximum, in the red zone, but it has fixed the annoying problem of having the cursur jumping all over the place. I could not find this the first time I went looking, so possibly this is one of Windows' endless updates.

2010-09-13T02:52:31+00:00 Hey, mandolin123, i have a vaio vgn-nrxxx and was having the same problem with super sensitive touchpad and only two options in that synaptic screen, after trolling around i came across some good advice to installdell alps touchpad drivers instead, version 7.2.101.219; date 3-30-2009, even tho it seemed quite counter intuitive as its not the same brand as the sony one, but yea it did work for me, and i can and have adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad so my mouse isnt warping around when i type, as well disabling touchcheck. Try it out and see if it works for you too, remember to uninstall past drivers! Good luck!

Install the driver and go to Mouse>Device Settings>Settings>Pointing>Sensitivity and voila! Problem solved :)
