Windows 7, touchpad sensitivity, Sony VAIO

I have a VAIO VPCEB1SFX with Windows 7 OS.  Also struggled with the touchy touchpad. The touchpad sensitivity really can't be adjusted satisfactorily through the Mouse feature... but I finally got a solution to circumvent this..... 

I am using an external wireless mouse now. And, to stop the cursor jumping around when the palm part of the thumb accidentally brushes the touchpad.... I disable the touchpad by going to the VAIO CONTROL CENTER (use Search to find it faster). Then go to POINTING DEVICE and unclick ENABLE and hit APPLY to disable the touchpad.  I now eliminate the problem of jumping cursors (I always use a wireless mouse).  When I don't have the external mouse handy and need to use the touchpad, I go to START (using the keyboard), scroll to SEARCH with the arrow keys, type in VAIO Control Center ( I have since pinned it to my START menu), arrow down or use TAB, to POINTING DEVICE, Tab to the ENABLE box, hit SPACE to check it, Tab to APPLY, hit ENTER, Tab to OK to close the Window.  The touchpad is activated again this way.

I have Vaio VPCEB3E1E pre-installed with Windows 7 and was experiencing similar problems.

In particular, with internet browsers the page would zoom uncontrollably - very frustrating.  

In my case, no additional drivers were required to solve the problem.

The touchpad settings can be accessed as follows:

1. Windows Start Menu > Devices and Printers (it is on right hand side)
2. A new window opens.  Click on the big picture of the computer 
3. A new window opens called 'Vaio Control Center'.  Click 'Keyboard and Mouse' (in the list on the left of the window)
4. Click 'Pointing Device'.

You can then disable/enable the touchpad.  

Click the 'Advanced' button to change the settings.

1. Speed/Sensitivity can be found under the 'Pointer Options' tab.
2. Multi-touch sensitivity is under the 'Multitouch Gestures' tab.

I had the same problem on my Toshiba Satelite after I replaced Vista with Windows 7 (64-bit). There is actually a way to change the touchpad sensitivity in Windows 7 without installing or uninstalling any drivers or other bits: Open the Start Menu, then click Control Panel >Devices and Printers > Mouse > Device Settings > Settings > Sensitivity > Palm Check, then adjust the slider toward Maximum, and click OK. I use mine set all the way to Maximum, in the red zone, but it has fixed the annoying problem of having the cursur jumping all over the place. I could not find this the first time I went looking, so possibly this is one of Windows' endless updates.

Hey, mandolin123, i have a vaio vgn-nrxxx and was having the same problem with super sensitive touchpad and only two options in that synaptic screen, after trolling around i came across some good advice to installdell alps touchpad drivers instead, version 7.2.101.219; date 3-30-2009,  even tho it seemed quite counter intuitive as its not the same brand as the sony one, but yea it did work for me, and i can and have adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad so my mouse isnt warping around when i type, as well disabling touchcheck. Try it out and see if it works for you too, remember to uninstall past drivers! Good luck!
