Windows 7 has stopped my SD card reader from working.

My SD card reader doesn't work in Windows 7. Have looked in device manager and all is there - have tried updating drivers and told mine are the latest (2006)...

I am not impressed with this system....looks like another Vista farce to me....

Also I have had to hard boot 4 times because my screen has frozen......WTF is going on??

Hi,

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button ![](http://res2.windows.microsoft.com/resbox/en/Windows 7/Main/4/f/4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33/4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg) , clicking Control Panel , clicking Appearance and Personalization , and then clicking Folder Options .

Find these settings on the View tab in Folder Options.

Clear the Hide empty drives in the Computer folder check box, and then click OK .

    What are your system specs and what error messages are you getting?  We can't see your computer from here, so the more specific info the better.

    Hi OldHobo - 

    I have a Samsung X11 1.66 core duo , 2GB Ram 100GB HD GeoForce 7400 graphics card - now running Windows 7 Home Premium

    When I ran troubleshooter - it showed the SD Card with a red x - looked for drivers but couldn't find any. I removed drivers and reinstalled from Samsung cd. When I re-ran troubleshooter - no problems showed - BUT the SD card reader just wont read anything. I can use a mobile USB reader and that reads the cards - but I would very much like the internal one to work.

    As for the freezing - it just freezes occcassionally - no error messages

    I did a complete install after formating my HD to remove everything.

    One other Question - how would u be able to see my laptop from there - is there anywhere I can log on that allows you to see it?

    Hi, Leo123.

    Have you checked on the manufacturer's site to see if you have the latest bios and motherboard drivers installed? If not, upgrading them may solve your problems. As far as the freezing, check to see if you have an overheating issue with the system.

    Regarding "can't see it from here", just an expression to remind people that trying to troubleshoot problems over the internet is much harder to do than when the computer is sitting in front of you so that one can see exactly what it is doing. Often, seeing it in action intuitively leads one to look at more-specific items to solve the problem.

    It sounds like you've done everything right so far and it's just a matter of pinging away at possibilities until all of the issues are resolved.

    I have built in card readers on my E-machine....they worked fine with Vista and XP but now that I have W-7 installed, I cannot find how to use them,,,,the device manager shows them as working but they are no where to be found in the programs or "my computer" like they used to be......
