Windows 7 has stopped my SD card reader from working.

My SD card reader doesn't work in Windows 7. Have looked in device manager and all is there - have tried updating drivers and told mine are the latest (2006)...

I am not impressed with this system....looks like another Vista farce to me....

Also I have had to hard boot 4 times because my screen has frozen......WTF is going on??

Hi,

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button ![](http://res2.windows.microsoft.com/resbox/en/Windows 7/Main/4/f/4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33/4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg) , clicking Control Panel , clicking Appearance and Personalization , and then clicking Folder Options .

Find these settings on the View tab in Folder Options.

Clear the Hide empty drives in the Computer folder check box, and then click OK .

    Thank you for the help...I was now able to FIND the device but it still is not working. I spent over an hour on line with Microsoft "support" and they were not help at all and then after about 20 minutes with support from the manufacturer, they told me that there are no drivers available for the device under windows 7....but I might try using the "run as Vista" mode and try that...have not had time to investigate that option yet.

    Read somewhere this morning, on the other technet forum, that there is an option to have them not display or display even when not in use. Don't recall exactly where this option was, but you might want to try looking in 'properties'  or device manager. Sorry I can't be more definitive.

    I have built in card readers on my E-machine....they worked fine with Vista and XP but now that I have W-7 installed, I cannot find how to use them,,,,the device manager shows them as working but they are no where to be found in the programs or "my computer" like they used to be......

    Hi, Leo123.

    Have you checked on the manufacturer's site to see if you have the latest bios and motherboard drivers installed? If not, upgrading them may solve your problems. As far as the freezing, check to see if you have an overheating issue with the system.

    Regarding "can't see it from here", just an expression to remind people that trying to troubleshoot problems over the internet is much harder to do than when the computer is sitting in front of you so that one can see exactly what it is doing. Often, seeing it in action intuitively leads one to look at more-specific items to solve the problem.

    It sounds like you've done everything right so far and it's just a matter of pinging away at possibilities until all of the issues are resolved.
