My Toshiba Satellite with Vista Premium 64 stopped working.I get the black screen and only F2,or F12 work(not F8)If I don't press anything, I get a message

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your pc.This error can be caused by unplagging a removable storage device...,or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM.Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your pc.

File:\Boot\Bcd

Status:0xc00000e9

Info an unexpected I/O error has occured."

Nothing is connected to my laptop.

Can't go to any safe modes.Tapping F8 not doing anything.Tried recovering my system with Vista recovery disc' with no luck. When I get to System Recovery Options screen,no systems come up.I tried trun System repair, get the same massage at the end.Tried to do restore points, get error message about not having any restore points. Is there a way I can restore it to factory settings with pressing some magic buttons?Or do anything else to get it to work.I must've spent at least 20 hrs trying to fix it,with no results. Thanks for any suggestions.

    1. The comment you are responding (pointlessly) to is now almost 7 years old, why even bother if you aren't going to attempt to be productive?
    2. The original answer attempts to offer a list of possible resolutions. Obviously for the OP, they have exhausted most measures and won't be able to access the start menu. The OP would likely need to start at step 3, boot from external media, and attempt repairs. For someone else who might be able to utilize safe mode, using the start menu and running chkdsk might be a viable option. The point of archived answers is not just to help the original poster, it's also to help those with similar problems who may benefit from one of the suggestions given along the way.

Yeah, apparently Deleena 5 didn't understand the problem. With a blank screen, kinda hard to even guess where the mouse  arrow is, let alone try to open anything. Have the same problem with my ACER Aspire 5750-6690. Working on it. That IT degree is finally paying for itself.

Once I find the fix for it, I will post.

Hey ik this post is super old but I'm currently having the same issue with the same laptop. Did you happen to figure anything out

Judging from the person's response that you quoted I doubt they will respond but you never know.

    My suggestions / thoughts are:

    1. Does an external monitor work? If yes, it's a display problem (backlight out, loose cable, etc). If not, it's possibly a motherboard problem.
    2. There are some reports online of solder reflow issues, though yours isn't really the right laptop era where these were really common. Cold solder joints were mostly a problem on Nvidia chips in laptops (Core 2 era) and the laptop would intermittently power on without video at all, then sometimes work fine. You had to either take a torch to the gpu to reflow the solder traces or "bake" the board.
    3. Does the laptop beep on boot if you remove all RAM? If not, you probably have a bad board. If yes, it might be OK.

At least these will get you started.

So the screen is fine, I can't press F8 or anything. Occasionally I'll get the error bdc message and once it gets passes that it'll get to screen with the Windows logo  right before u go to log on and it just sits there. Is there a way to run command prompt or something and reset the computer to its factoryWindows ? This problem only occurred when updating to Windows 10
