My Toshiba Satellite with Vista Premium 64 stopped working.I get the black screen and only F2,or F12 work(not F8)If I don't press anything, I get a message

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your pc.This error can be caused by unplagging a removable storage device...,or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM.Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your pc.

File:\Boot\Bcd

Status:0xc00000e9

Info an unexpected I/O error has occured."

Nothing is connected to my laptop.

Can't go to any safe modes.Tapping F8 not doing anything.Tried recovering my system with Vista recovery disc' with no luck. When I get to System Recovery Options screen,no systems come up.I tried trun System repair, get the same massage at the end.Tried to do restore points, get error message about not having any restore points. Is there a way I can restore it to factory settings with pressing some magic buttons?Or do anything else to get it to work.I must've spent at least 20 hrs trying to fix it,with no results. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi Ms. Debleena,

I got the same problem with Ms. Agnes,

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your pc. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device...,or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM.Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your pc.

    File:\Boot\Bcd

    Status: 0xc00000e9

Info an unexpected I/O error has occurred."

I already followed the procedure you mention (Step #3) but still got the same problem, it does not fix the error.

One factor i think was it asked me to load drivers something like that cause my windows7 doesn't appear in the list when i tried to do the System Recovery Options. I don't know anymore what to do. Oh by the way my unit was Samsung N148Plus Netbook.

    Thank you & regards.

I misunderstood based on your initial post. Since you just have software issues:

    1. Use alt + f10 at boot to trigger the Acer restore process (this will likely destructively restore the original OS so rescue your data FIRST if you need it)

    http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a\_id/35232/~/how-to-restore-windows-using-alt-%2B-f10-on-startup

    1. If you have another windows 10 device you can create a rescue drive to potentially fix your install or roll back to a system restore point

    https://www.winhelp.us/create-a-recovery-drive-in-windows-8.html

    1. Attempt some other repair methods on your device using 3rd party tools

    https://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair-cd/home/Home/

    http://best-windows.vlaurie.com/boot-disks.html

Good luck and please report back with your results.

So the screen is fine, I can't press F8 or anything. Occasionally I'll get the error bdc message and once it gets passes that it'll get to screen with the Windows logo  right before u go to log on and it just sits there. Is there a way to run command prompt or something and reset the computer to its factoryWindows ? This problem only occurred when updating to Windows 10

Judging from the person's response that you quoted I doubt they will respond but you never know.

    My suggestions / thoughts are:

    1. Does an external monitor work? If yes, it's a display problem (backlight out, loose cable, etc). If not, it's possibly a motherboard problem.
    2. There are some reports online of solder reflow issues, though yours isn't really the right laptop era where these were really common. Cold solder joints were mostly a problem on Nvidia chips in laptops (Core 2 era) and the laptop would intermittently power on without video at all, then sometimes work fine. You had to either take a torch to the gpu to reflow the solder traces or "bake" the board.
    3. Does the laptop beep on boot if you remove all RAM? If not, you probably have a bad board. If yes, it might be OK.

At least these will get you started.
