Bluetooth peripheral device driver not found

I upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium. I was able to connect my Blackberry Storm just fine when I had Vista. Now when I try to connect my phone via Bluetooth I get a "Bluetooth peripheral device not found."  I have tried everything. I have checked for updates on Windows, Bluetooth manufacture, and HP and I cannot find any update. I have went to the device manager and right clicked the peripheral driver and tried to update it over the internet and manually. I tried to troubleshoot and run it with a older version of Windows, since it worked then, but when it asks me to select which program I would like to run on an older version of windows, I cannot find the drive. Does anyone have any ideas or a way to fix this??!!!!!

Thanks

Hi There,Actually your solution to your problem is simple, I was in the same situation few months ago, and i have managed to resolve th problem, Please follow the steps below

Download the 'Windows Mobile Device Center' ( current version is 6.1 ) which you can download it from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx

this works for both Vista and Windows 7. I've tried it on both.

  • Install the downloaded software but it may not look like it worked on Windows 7 PCs. Vista automatically configured the settings on the bluetooth devices but for those who have Windows 7, here are the things you should do:
  • Go to 'Device Manager' from 'Control Panel' -Or- just right-click on Computer Icon and choose 'Properties' and then click on 'Device Manager'.
  • You'll see an 'Unknown Device' named 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device'
  • Right-Click it and click on "Update Driver Software" -Or- anyway you find it easy to bring up the Update driver window.

-Click"Browse My Computer !\[\](http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/imgs/grey_loader.gif)for Driver Software" button.

  • Click "Let Me Pick from a List of Device Drivers on my computer".
  • Select 'Bluetooth Radio' from the list if it asked you to select and then in the next window, it will show a list of drivers with Company Names in one list and Drivers in another. In the Company List choose 'Microsoft Corporation', not only Microsoft.
  • From the drivers list there may be one or more drivers with the name "Windows Mobile-Based Device Support" with different driver versions. Select one or the latest.
  • Ignore any warnings and keep pressing next and then Finish at last. If all goes well, the last screen will show the message that device driver is successfully installed.

Now, after manually updating the driver for your bluetooth device, in 'Device Manager' when you click on 'Bluetooth Radios', it should display one more item which will say 'Windows Mobile-based device support'.

There are few more things that you want to pay attention to. If you have already added the device in your 'bluetooth device list' that didn't work, then remove the device and add it again. After you add it, you might need to restart the computer if it gave you a connection problem error message.

Every PCs that had Windows 7 and Vista worked after installing this software and I hope it will work for you too.

Regards

Ashley Colaco

Hello lghovden06,

This usually means that the Bluetooth device driver is not installed or it’s out of date or even not compatible with Windows 7. You need to install the latest device driver or if the device is a Windows mobile device you can install the Windows Mobile Device Center to fix the issue. See the KB article link in the post below to fix it:

    Hi,

I'm having a similar problem with my system(DELL Inspiron N5010). When I try to connect other bluetooth enabled devices to my laptop, I get the error message that my system is lacking a bluetooth peripheral driver. I did try to update the driver by going to device manager as you suggested above, however I do not see any option called  Microsoft Corporation when I click on

"Let Me Pick from a List of Device Drivers on my computer". Instead it gives the choices Microsoft and Microsoft HW; and all the driver upgrades listed there give a popup that Windows is not recommending installation because they are not compatible. Is there any way to work around this.

Can you also suggest me any good site  from where a peripheral device driver can be downloaded and installed on my computer (I tried DELL Drivers and downloads but it didn't work)

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the tips. I went through all the steps, 4 times, and every time it worked, however, at the end when the software is reported to be installed (in the bubble on the taskbar) and the BB 8520 device shows to be OK (a circular sign appears on the device icon), after about 5 seconds the sign dissapears and the yellow ! appears on it.  In fact, EVERYTHING changes back to the problem status. Take note that I already wiped my BB and installed the latest software from the BB website before I went through your proposed steps.

Do you (or someone else) perhaps have advice on this situation.

    Willem Pretorius.
