Random freezes with windows 7 - 64 bit

Hi Everyone,

The solutions provided here are all great, however I must emphasise that they all seem to have been caused by different issues; my problems for example have been fixed by building myself a new computer using up-to-date components, whereas other solutions recommend changing settings or even uninstalling third-party software.

Also try using the complete backup option in Windows 7, and then performing a clean install of Windows. If your problems go away then you know it was third-party software causing them, but if they still exist then you know it's a hardware setting or hardware issue at fault.

The first step to troubleshooting is finding out what is not causing the problems.

I spend thousands of dollars on a PC with windows 7, it works great for months (say 6).

I literally have it sitting there, just serving media files and it starts freezing them. I have not made any changes to it. Now my expolrer.exe constantly freezes. The only thing I've witnessed is the PC updated itself and restarted. And is now virtually useless.

Look at this horrendous thread, I have to be some memory timings expert? Have to look up RAM timings sequences from a motherboards website. MS is so out of touch with usability and design. You'd think they'd get it right after all this time. Nope. The amount of useless features cram packed into windows that people never use, if they put all those man hours and effort into making a simple OS that worked everyone would be a lot better off.

I thought i might have a bad HDD or something, except I've troubleshooted and ruled out the HDD's, I then discovered that thousands of others are having similar issues for one out of a thousand different reasons. Seriously who can be stuffed having to research every intricate working of a PC, like every element to troubleshoot it, I think people could just learn to write their own OS after the amount you need to learn to be able to trouleshoot this product.

Hey buy a PC with Windows and welcome to the land of having to learn a bunch of inane  technical jargon so that you can get use from your investment. Hah great selling pitch. I (we) are all such suckers.

I am also having this issue and have tried just all sorts of stuff. 

Acer Aspire AS5552-5898 Notebook AMD Phenom II Triple-Core N830(2.1GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Radeon HD 4250. Max is 8 gb ram.
