Random freezes with windows 7 - 64 bit

(Possible Solution) Hi Hanbulance - Yes, a Mac or I also use Linux (Ubuntu for my notebook and dual boot system) which has so much that I like but this pc came with win7 and I also use it at work. You are SO right about the ridiculous size of this thread - for all the money in profit Windows support should get involved.  I was going to take Win 7 completely away but tried this and it worked. Many talked about power setting, but what they maybe didn't change was the power settings on their Network Adaptor!! This worked for me. Okay, I assumed you changed all the Power Option settings (Control panel > Power Options > Click on profiles and turn off and sleep to never or select Additional Plans and turn on High Performance (which is always set to Never). THEN additionally, Go to Network & Sharing Center-->

Change Adapter Settings-->rightclick Properties-->Configure--> Power Management and uncheck all boxes. (I found this at http://www.w7forums.com/windows-7-freezes-t114p3.html, after trying many things and this worked!). Good luck.

I think its fixed...I updated the driver for Synaptics touchpad. Mine is currently disabled and working fine...no idea how this would freeze the whole system though.

I am also having this issue and have tried just all sorts of stuff. 

Acer Aspire AS5552-5898 Notebook AMD Phenom II Triple-Core N830(2.1GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Radeon HD 4250. Max is 8 gb ram.
