Random freezes with windows 7 - 64 bit

I use to run Vista home premium x86 on a acer computer. This summer I downloaded Windows 7 rc x86. A month ago I bought all new parts and since I could use 64-bit system now I installed a 64-bit Windows 7.  Then did the problem start. Every new and then the computer freezes, some days over 30 times. I thought it was hardware problem and tried a lot of hardware finders and nothing helped. I also installed windows 7 rc my mothers laptop (The same version I use to have that work fine) that used to run on Vista home basic.. But her computer didn’t freeze it just got a black screen now and then.

The I started to suspect that it was because it was a beta version so when windows 7 were released I bought two of them a 32-bit and a 64-bit. But the problem didn´t go away. It´s still there and It´s kind of frustrating and even more now when I’m trying to write a essay.

I used windows upgrade advisor and it didn´t see any problem with an upgrade to windows 7. What can I do?

Guys,

I might have the answer to your problems.  This might fix your sleep/suspend problems and your random freezing problems.  Bottom line is that the default and "auto" values in Win 7 and your BIOS might not produce a stable computer...even with a virgin install.

RANDOM FREEZES FIX:

My computer used to freeze randomly until I fixed the memory timings.  I suspected bad memory early on and tested it with MEMTEST, but it passed with flying colors.  I even tried swaping memory out, trying to eliminate bad memory and/or slots.  It turned out that it was a memory frequency/timings/voltage issue.  No more freezes!  If you have a similar setup, this will most likely fix it.  If not, then check your memory and/or power supply.

The "AUTO" settings in BIOS *may not* produce a stable setting.  You have to goto the ASUS support website and download the latest memory QVL and lookup the memory settings for your particular brand there.  For my memory (OCZX1333LV6GK(XMP)) I had to make the following adjustments in the BIOS:

DRAM Freq:1066  (even though my memory is rated at 1333 frequency, the QVL guide recommended a lower freq!)

7-7-7-16 for the rest of the timings.  The other settings I was able to leave in "AUTO"

DRAM BUS Voltage: 1.6

*warning: be sure to consult your memory/motherboard documentation...the wrong value could damage your components!

SUSPEND/SLEEP FIX:

My computer used to hang when coming out of sleep or wouldn't completely goto sleep.  This solution may be partially dependent on you fixing a random freezing issue if you have one. 

In your "advanced" power settings, disable "Hybrid Sleep".  That's it!  My motherboard doesn't like hybrid sleep.

*If you have a desktop with a UPS, Win 7 will treat it like a laptop and apply the battery settings....sooo make sure you adjust the "on battery" settings!

Harddrive:  3 x WD Caviar Black drives in RAID 5

Video card: 2 x NVIDIA 9800 GTX+ SLI

*I have all of the ASUS overclocking/energy savings programs uninstalled

*I have the latest BIOS 0801 and all the latest drivers installed

    As frustrated as everyone here. Cannot determine exactly what's causing the freeze.

    Initially installation W7 was ok. Additional actions:

    Enabled latest automatic Microsoft downloads.

    Installed STEAM

    Installed DivX

    Installed iTunes/QuickTime

    Installed Call of Duty MW 2

    After playing CoD for 1 hour. Paused game for a drink only to come back to find it frozen. All ____ broke lose then after.

    Freezes roughly 15 seconds after logging into W7

    System freezes even if not doing any work

    Many SVChost processes seen

    Does not freeze in Safe Mode w/o network

    Reinstalled OS TWICE. Results in same freeze after additional software/patches are installed.

    Actions:

    Did a system restore to the point where AFTER the last Asus Drivers went in from the Factory Driver CD. So no additional items. Seems to be working (for now). More tests (slowly but surely!) to be done.

    1.6GHz Intel i7-720QM Core i7 Processor

    4GB DDR3 RAM

    640GB SATA Hard Drive

    NVidia GTX 260M 1GB DDR3

    Windows 7 Ultimate

    I'm having the same problem with my computer freezing.  It mostly happens when I'm playing games.  Dragan Age: Origins or Champions Online.  Rarely it happens when I'm not playing a game.  I've tried every suggestion that's been posted here and on other forums.  I tried different versions of my video and audio drivers.  I've disabled startup services to see if any of those were causing problems...and I only have about 4 there since I did a clean install and haven't put anything back on other then my games and Kaspersky IS.  I thought maybe Kaspersky was a problem so I disabled that but still had the same problems.  I've updated my BIOS and critical updates for windows.

    My system specs are:

    Win 7 64 bit Home Premium

    Inte Core2 Quad Q9550 2.83 GHz - liquid cooled

    8GB DDR3 RAM

    EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 SLI mode

    jesus this is frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    got the pc up and captured hundreds of lines of srvchost.exe and have NO IDEA wich ones are bad mike from MS!!!!!

    I cant find a way to highlite them all and paste here so YOU can look at it so NOW what??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    gonna try the wmpnetwrk sollution as above

    Hey all.  I used the ProcMon program as suggested above and noticed nothing for the first 10-15 minutes and things were running fine.  Then out of nowhere, wmpnetwk.exe started running.  At this point, things started to freeze up and the symptoms that I have been having began. (slow if any response and memory usage spiking to 90% or higher)  So I looked into it and it seems that it was an issue with some of the beta builds but was said that it should be worked out before the RTM.  Well, here we are and it seems as though the bug may have found its way into my system.  So, I ran services.msc from start>run and scrolled down to wmpnetwk.exe.  I stopped the process then disabled it from properties.  (it should be interesting to note that it was set to automatically start on a delayed schedule which could explain why we have had times where things were fine and then the problems came storming back)  I restarted and immediately noticed a snappier feel and have not had ANY of the symptoms since.  I should also note that if you share media through WMP or Media Center to your XBOX or another PC that this process is needed so only disable if you don't use it.  I don't so I am okay.  I really hope this works for all of us and that Microsoft pays attention to the bug.

    UPDATE: AlexT from another forum http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7performance/thread/be9c5622-de20-4c31-a5fe-23ee08580329 mentioned that disabling this process DID NOT prevent him from streaming to his XBOX!  He says it still works perfectly.
